Walheim says Tarocco is best suited to warm interior valleys of CA. It is not suggested for desert areas. He says Moro and Sanguinelli are OK for the desert. Are you east of the pass in the low desert? I have all three plus a Smith Red Valencia on Patty S's recommendation. All bought last summer so no good fruit yet. Best season info I have is that they will mature in the order of: Moro, Tarocco, Smith, Sanguinelli.

I am by no means an expert on the matter but It could be that your tree is unable to grow to a mature enough size in its current pot. more information is needed and pictures would be helpful. I do remember a similar thread a while back that ended in success after increasing the pot size http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions/2809545/help-lemon-tree-not-flowering?n=74 from what I understand about citrus trees its not the age of the tree that counts towards maturity, its the number of nodes. If your tree isn't able to reach a "mature" amount of nodes because of pruning, being root bound, etc It will never reach maturity and never bloom. Since your tree was grown from seed and not grafted onto a dwarfing root stock, the required node count to fruit could make for a fairly large tree that may be hard to get in a pot. More details such as Soil type, watering habits, Light conditions and pictures of the tree would be needed to give further advice.

Hi Dennis I have a Dwarf Cara Cara Navel Orange tree and it is growing very nice In a container, also the Cara Cara Oranges are sweet and great for juicing. I cant say much about the sanguigno Blood Orange but I imagine if you get either tree on a dwarf root stock you should be fine container growing them.

I don't see any problems with canning that particular recipe, it's fruit and sugar and the fruit is citrus, so high in acid. On average, oranges have a pH of between 3 and just above 4. Anything below 4.6 is considered safe for water bath canning, as a general rule, so you should be good to go. Happy canning! Annie
