Lawn weed, lawn weed! Yep! V. persica lives happily in one of the shadiest areas of my lawn. I pull the larger plants, but I'll never get rid of it. When I bought the house, V. persica filled the (self-assumed) role of groundcover in a neglected roadside bed of Rose of Sharon (now thick enough with Strawberry Candy daylilies that I rarely see speedwell there). The winter after the death of the Rose of Sharons, it made such an attractive groundcover that I felt guilty planting the first dayliles that spring. There is also thymeleaf speedwell in most of the shady parts of the lawn. The nasty stuff roots as it goes. I'll never be rid of it either. I thought there was a third type of speedwell somewhere, but it's not on my list.

I have a friend that uses violas for ground cover and it's pretty. I don't know how that would work in your situation. Since you have the glechoma why not transplant a few and see how they do? You can take stock next year and decide if that's how you want to go. That way you're not losing much in cost of materials and effort. I hope the rocks continue to do the trick with the foxes. We see them occasionally here, once interrupted one "playing" with my cat. Banshee cat is fearless, having survived a coyote attack. The wonders of wildlife!

In this case with the ground ivy, I would consider it a weed, because it is not native, and has managed to spread all over this continent. It forms a thick mat that native plant seeds can't penetrate. It has been spread all across the world by European travelers. Ground ivy is in the mint family Lamiaceae, which contains an enormous amount of beautiful garden flowers, but like most all other plant families contains some less desirable, not very attractive members that many think of as weeds. This plant probably has a low impact on native species, not being as destructive as other non native invasive species like privets and swallowworts. Ground ivy has woven and stiched itself so well into our continent that I can't ever see it being totally eradicated. Perhaps well into the future we will learn how to bioengineer plant specific viruses that will target individual plant species exclusively. In my area, ground ivy is everywhere. Once it gets into a lawn, it's extremely difficult to get rid of, and most people just give up and learn to live with it, which I think is healthier than constantly being filled with anxiety about it. It has a pleasant smell and makes a refreshing tea. Agree. Sometimes you have to go beyond what the organic approaches can do for you. I will take this forum over all the YouTube lawn care folks. This forum is well over 20 years old with people like me and a few others with long memories of what has worked and not. The YouTube guys seem to be doing their own thing completely without guidance or critique. Basically they're doing what their pappy taught them and calling it the Truth. Speaking of memory, there was a guy here a long time ago who did eradicate creeping Charlie by digging it out. He started in one corner and went as far as he could go. The next week he started IN THE SAME CORNER to get the stuff that had already regrown. He got a lot farther the second time. The third week he started IN THE SAME CORNER as before. It is that type of patience and persistence that it takes to eradicate the weed. Spraying it out may take similar persistence, but wait 3 weeks between applications to see the results. If the spray does not kill the seeds (most sprays don't), then prepare to repeat the spray either later in the season or next season.
