Where in Ohio are you?.. I'm near Cleveland. I'm assuming this is new construction and a bare ground? Type of seed depends on the area, traffic, and how much attention you plan on giving it. KBB will need a little more work and regular watering. Fescue is a little more forgiving. There are also a lot of decent mixes containing a little of each and some perennial rye. Anyway, watering "sometime in the AM" is not going to cut it. Especially if we keep these temperatures going. Seed cannot dry out once it is saturated or it will be a loss. You need several light waterings a day to keep it going and germinate. It also needs the same treatment for a while after it's growing to establish. The hydrdoseed mix will help retain moisture, but once a day is not going to work in summer. Another option is to go with a basic rye grass for now as it will germinate in 5 days or so and give you grass (again will still need to continue to water until established), and then come fall overseed with a higher quality mix. KBB needs at least 21-28 days to germinate, and fescue somewhere in the middle, 10-20 days.

We have been Hydroseeding since 1969 and have been in the business of landscaping since 1926. Hydroseeding can be used anywhere and for anyone. Find a reputable Landscape Contractor who has been in business for 5 years or more and not a FLY-BY-NIGHTER. It is up to you as an owner to determine what kind of seed mix to use.You should choose a seed mix with at least several species. I believe you are in zone 5. You should choose a mix with the following,Improved variety of Kentucky Blue Grass,Creeping or chewing fescue(improved variety)and a turf type improved variety of perennial ryegrass. Hydroseeding is a faster way of seeding while split seeding or brillion seeding might be considered a little more accurate. Stay away from any Annual Ryegrass. It is garbage and should not be used in your mix.Building contractors constantly use this because it looks good when it first comes up but turns a faded yellow-green in a few months and eventually dies resulting in to reseeding.Ask a lot of questions to the Hydroseeding Firm you use. It is your investment.

I am sure they would do it for you, but if its a small area, you might have to wait until they have another bigger contract scheduled in the area. Crabgrass needs warm nights to germinate, so you should have a 6 to 8 week window to establish seed before pre emergence is needed.

I guess it depends on what you are sodding. If you are going with St Augustine, sodding is fairly cheap. It can be checker boarded in to cut the cost in half. It will need to be watered frequently however. We get over 55 inches of rain here and people are able to maintain it without watering. Whitney does not get that much rain and the soil may also be thin. If using bermuda grass, I do not see a need to Hydo-seed unless it is on a slope. If the area is fairly flat, just make a good seedbed and put in seed. It will need to be watered well for a week or so and then should spread quickly. Bermuda grass seed usually will not sprout until late May when soil is warm.
