Anyone start seeds yet?

I have! Under the lights are daylily seedlings, downy sage, verbena rigida, lavender stock, blue abutilon, roseroot and echinacea. Outside for winter sowing are two different delphiniums, viola, asclepias, primrose, and foxglove. Hurry spring!

I just ordered my seeds today and I'm in the process of planning out my new garden.

I've had gardens in the past, but the wife and I just bought a house, so I'll be starting from scratch... for better or for worse.

It sounds like you're really prepared for spring... it's so close, especially with forecasts for some days to hit 60 next week!

Petunias, impatiens and coleus are underway. Zinnias and marigolds are next in about 10 days.

For now I'm just starting brug seeds. I'll start other tropicals later on. Lucy I'm not on bed rest and am slowly getting back to normal. It's just taking a bit longer then I expected. My DS had a HS swim meet that I went to this am but only managed to make it through half. I had great results with germinating the plumeria seeds that you sent. Unfortunately they were one of the things that didn't get watered while I was away so they are all gone : ( The packing peanut germination worked well and I'll use it again but will make sure I use non biodegradeable peanuts! lol Mary I winter sow loads of seeds and love it. I sow very little in the greenhouse anymore. I love just sticking a container of seed outside in Dec (or later) and ignoring it until it's time to transplant. Winter sown seeds are also not affected by damping off which I have a big problem with in the greenhouse. I've learned to sow many fewer seeds when WS because the germination rate is usually very high. The first 2 years I did it I had so many more plants then I needed or could even give away. I finally just started planting them in clumps because there were so many. You can start the more tender annuals and perennials in jugs in March and April.

Megan, Congrats on the little sprouts! My first pepper sprout was a "Biker Billy" jalapeno, and he beat every other pepper plant by two days. With a name like Biker Billy, you expect to be "first", I guess. I grow hundreds more tomato plants than I need to grow as well, but never have any trouble giving away the extras. Some of them go to friends in her our neighborhood and others go to work so Tim can share them with his coworkers, but many of them make the trek to OKC in April for the Spring Fling. I had potted up most of the tomatoes from my first round of seedstarting and those are the ones basking out in the sun today. Yesterday I potted up the rest from that round, and today I started seeds for the second round. It always freaks out people who stop by the house for one reason or another in the early spring and see hundreds of cups of seedlings lined up on the patio, on tables, on the sunporch, etc. It is fun to have extras so I can say "would you like some plants?" My poor little plants were shivering in the cold wind when the cold front came through at mid-morning but now that the front, the clouds and the heavy wind have passed, they're sunning themselves and enjoying a beautiful afternoon. Now, if only the soil temps and air temps will hurry up and get to the right level so we can plant them in the ground! Dawn

yes, Christine1950, once the seedlings have true leaves you should gently separate them and repot them individually. The seedlings in the back-right pot are ready to transplant now, but I'd wait on the other two pots for now. You can bury longer stems when transplanting. You'll want to grow them larger indoors before planting outside, so your timing sounds correct to me. Just keep growing them under lights or in a bright/sunny window... they can be moved outdoors on nicer days but don't let them get too dried out, sunburned, or frozen. lol!

I started 13 seed trays this weekend. I stole, er, um, borrowed one of DH's wire storage reacks out of the garage and set it up in the kitchen and filled it up with trays of those little peat pellets. I'm using a heating pad with 15-minute automatic shutoff under the tomato seeds to provide a little extra warmth. I had to place it in front of a North-facing window because we have such a long porch overhang on the east side. I have grow lights going over the trays except, the shelf is 3' wide and the grow lights come in 2' or 4 feet lengths. Aaarrhghghg!!!!! I'm suffering the "10 hotdogs and 8 buns" syndrome. Need I even mention that the 4 footers are not twice as much as the 2 footers, oh, no, they're more like 4 times the cost. Oh, well, for better or for worse, I started seeds this weekend. I also started cleaning out my vegetable garden beds and cleaned out my tool shed, planted a few cannas and daylilies, and sorted out my seeds in preparation for the Spring Swap at Forest Park in Fort Worth. Me!

I've got under lights onions, cauliflower, hot chilis and snapdragons. Sweet peppers just sprouted today and today I also planted 4 types of lettuce. Can't wait for spring!

Sounds like you are all off and running. Keriann, what's in the bigger pots to the back? Now I've started gaillardia, portulaca, agastache, talinum, celosia, petunias, rudbeckia, angelonia, melissa and impatiens. I've tried to tweak when to start seeds with a calendar and how happy I am when I set them out. If they are too small I move them ahead for the next year a couple of weeks, too huge and they go back.

I'm starting my tomato seeds today. Will probably get to the peppers sometime this week. I got a mini greenhouse for xmas so I'm very excited to see how it works for seed starting.

Peppers yesterday, Tomatoes in two weeks. Snow is finally off the garden after all that rain yesterday and I can see the Garlic starting to sprout.

I started the tomatoes today. The cole crops were started last week. Also started last week, some Salvia greggii, Lychnis, Amaryllis and rudbeckia.
Keriann, I hope that we have an early spring or you will be having home grown tomatoes right out of your house. Your plants look great.

Tomatoes (five kinds), Eggplant, Peppers (sweet & hot) Brussel Sprouts, Broccoli, Parsley, Lettuce (mixed leaf & baby romaine), Spinach, Echinacia, Bachelor Buttons, Lychnis, Zinnia, Asters, Alyssum, Lobelia, Cilantro, Basil (Genovese, Licorice, Amethyst), Russian Tarragon, and Mint, all under lights. Plus a buch of winter sowed seeds that I am not remembering right now and sure cant read the labels under all the snow!

About 2/3 of the indoor seeds have sprouted in the last week and are looking good. the rest I am still looking for. I'm waiting til mid April to start most of the rest. Hoping I can turn my raised beds into cold frames and put out the cold weather veg then, so I will have more room under the lights.

I setup my xmas present - a mini greenhouse - and started my tomato seeds today. I'm hoping starting the seeds today is still early enough to have decent sized plants by mid/late May for planting in the ground.
