Wild tomato plants

my tomato plants are very big....lots of green...i do have tomatos starting on them but the plant itself is huge

can I trim the plant or is it to late?

I don't see why you couldn't. I hadn't had a chance to prune my plants and they got a little to big. Big in as in where I was able to walk between the cages a few weeks ago to algae growing on the ground from no sun light to dry the garden area out.

Well, I went to pruning last last Friday and things are a lot better. I can now get between the cages again and my Toms are still doing great.

From what I can see; pruning tomatoes causes a minor stress situation and generates early fruiting. Not a bad thought. In the wild a plant could easily be inadvertantly pruned by many things like deer browsing, wind storm, cattle stampede or lightening strike. The plant will survive. It'll go to seed earlier because of the stress. So, prune away, it really doesn't hurt anything but it will cause your plants to produce fruit earlier. Not so bad, huh? LOL

I currently have 12 Everglade tomato seedlings. I rent and can't really dig up my yard to grow them in the ground. What size container would be recommended? I currently grow my tomatoes in 5 gal. buckets but suspect, considering their prolific growing habits, might not be large enough. Would it be okay to plant more than one seedling in each container? Can't really afford to buy a dozen containers and the potting soil to fill them.
