Hand pulling bermuda grass does little because they can regrow from roots which can go down several feet. Preen Garden Weed Preventer only stops seeds from starting and the grass is probably coming from roots so no surpise it didn't work. The fabric/plastic barriers are worst than worthless imo. What I do is use a knife to dig around the root down as far as I can and get as much root as I can. The more root removed the longer it takes to come back and the more energy the existing roots use up. When grass appears again weed again. The longer green is allowed to grow the more energy gets put back into the roots. If you keep the green removed the roots will eventually run out of energy and die. Most people would use a systemic herbicide. Roundup, Easy Gone, whatever. The only way this stuff works is by reading and following the directions to the letter. Most of my friends that use sprays and say they don't work never read the directions at all. Just a waste of time and money. Don't get the spray get on the plants you want to keep. Spray on a calm day and you can use a piece of cardboard as a sheild. Once you get the upper hand the more frequently you remove new weeds the easier it will be.

I have some of this stuff (whatever it is) in my back yard where I dug out a post that was sunk in concrete. After I dug out the concrete, I filled it with dirt. It's left about a 2' circle of bare dirt. This stuff germinated from some weeds seeds I guess. As the bermuda spreads to cover, it's crowding this stuff out. Mow often, mow low, fertilze once a month & it'll make it's way outta there. (PS. the only reason I think this stuff germinated there is due to all the rain we've had here in Oklahoma the last several weeks. I've had measurable rain at my house now for the last 20 straight days! Once we get back to the normal Oklahoma hot dry weather & I'm back to only watering twice a month, while mowing every 3rd day, my lawn is so dense virtually NO weeds survive.) Good day, Dan

Well, I spent several hours pulling what wasn't killed/affected by Roundup. I've gotten almost half done. I bought some seed to plant there, if nothing else to shade out most of the weeds. My granddaughter and son talked me into getting pumpkin, watermelon, sunflowers, and corn. Kinda late for corn, but heck; even if I get no corn, I have compost material and don't have to worry quite as much all season! I am talking to neighbors/family and they are saving newspaper and using paper bags at grocery store vs plastic for me. I'll mulch with that and straw.

I have a wild Bermuda problem in my fescue lawn and a combination of fluazifop and triclopyr worked to turn the Bermuda brown. I don't think it's dead, not yet anyway, it takes repeat applications, but it's under control. The same should work for you.
