Strange cat on my fennel-put the dogs on it or let it be?
Comments (1)I don't know what it is, but I usually let things be unless I know for sure it's destructive and doesn't help out the food web (like Japanese Beetles). If it's not destroying your fennel, I'd leave it so that perhaps predators will take that and not your BST caterpillars. You could remove it and put it nearby--it sounds like some type of moth, so it might eat many kinds of plants....See MoreAnybody grow Dog Fennel, Eupatorium capillifolium?
Comments (6)I grow a bit in a large pot now to about 6-8 feet but in a previous large garden I had grown it in the ground. It did spread a bit but I found it easy to control in a somewhat dry spot. It grew probably 8-10 feet tall and even after frost (magical with frost on seedheads) still attractive to me. But then I like Equisetum (Horsetail), too~~grin~~and Pokeberry and other "weeds"... I like it unpruned but you can cut it back or thin out excess stems at soil level. As to butterflies, don't recall noticing...but probably so...the flowering "heads" have dozens of tiny blossoms. As to whether worth it to grow...you could always toss it out later. I'm a foliage nut and admire the contrast with other foliage...even use it in flower arrangements. josh...See MoreDo dogs get poison ivy?
Comments (2)My two terriers don't get it but they often transfer the oils to me when we snuggle. I've had it all over my face before. We do have PI in our woods and the dogs tramp through it, sometimes lay in it....See MoreVery sad dog poisoning
Comments (10)I am active on our neighborhood nextdoor forum. We just had a horrible situation. A lady had her black lab and her little terrier dog escape her fenced yard when someone didn't close the gate properly. The both had red collars full tags and identification and chips. Very well cared for loved family dogs, the children adore them. As soon as she realized they were missing she posted it on nextdoor so we could be on the lookout. She was out searching. They were spotted a few times. Everyone was helping look for them. One person heard gunshots in the neighborhood way back in a less desirable area. Multiple gunshots out into the streets! They shot and killed Rocko the black lab in the street! Poor Geo the little terrier laid there with his dying friend and would not leave. The owner was notified and had to go get them. The neighborhood is in turmoil and uproar. Those shots could have hit a person or house. The dog was very gentle and was at the street not hurting anyone. It made me physically ill. Just imagining if it was my baby that had accidentally escaped. Our neighborhood is so great about helping to find lost pets or rescuing those they see lost. It's just horrible. I don't know what is going to happen about it. I hope the person is held accountable. That lady had to break the news to her children....See MoreBonheur
