Is there any escape from white powdery mold?

Longtime reader, first time poster! This forum has been a big help in the past.

Now, tomato forum, you're my only hope.

We're growing tomatoes in containers, and seem to be plagued with what I assume is white powdery mold. I try to keep spraying the plants with Serenade fungicide, pruning away leaves and branches with spots on them, etc, but it pops up again and again. I fear we've gotten to it too late, and it's out of control.

1. is there any hope this won't kill our crop?

2. if it does, what can we do to make sure the stuff doesn't come back next year - if it's in the air and in the soil (and you can't see the microscopic spores), are we doomed?

Any suggestions would be helpful - I can't believe our season will be over before it begins...
