If anyone is following my mint is already smelling a bit stronger. Boy was I off. I noticed a few leaves that were soft but off white at the base of the plant. I also went back to the nursery and looked at there older mint pants. Mine was a decidedly lighter green..."grass green" actually. So after thinking and reading what I discovered was a BIG newbie error. A lot of people up here use coffee grounds in their gardens. I didn't realize (since no one included this step) that you have to compost it for several months first. So I had a pretty heavy potting mix that I mixed with a few big handfuls of well rinsed coffee grounds as a "slow release" nitrogen fertilizer. No. Noncomposted grounds start breaking down and leech nitrogen. My poor mint was suffering from nitrogen deficiency. Instead of doing 1/4 strength 10/10/10 every other watering or no fertilizer the past time I watered it at full strength and after 4 days or so it has improved already. I will water it with full strength 10/10/10 (ie per directions) one more time and if it keeps smelling better I will yank it out of the pot, shake off some of the coffee impregnated dirt and re pot with some other soil I have here.

trip1684, Because of the jagged edges on the leaf. the long narrow leaf and the fragrance of mint. I'd hazard a guess of costmary, which is not a mint but a member of the chrysanthemum family. The puritans kept one in their bibles as a book mark thus also known as bibleleaf. It is used as seasonings too. I'm not sure enough of your picture to positively identify it as costmary. Do you have a picture of the whole plant? I use to grow it but lost it a couple years ago in a hard freeze.

The lemon basil I have grown does have a distinct lemony smell, though it also has the smell and taste of basil mixed with it. It is a wonderful herb to use with fish, chicken, or vegetables. I have not made lemon basil tea, but am aware that basil tea has numerous health benefits. Have you considered adding some honey to it? You should be able to identify your plant by its leaf shape. Lemon balm has a rounded leaf with a scalloped edge. Lemon basil has a leaf that comes to a point and has a smooth edge, much like regular basil, but a bit narrower. I do not believe you have lemon balm, as I have never found a basil aroma or flavor in that herb.

Oh lord... I have seen them tons of times... don't know what it is... possibly horseweed Conyza canadensis or flaxleaf fleabane?
