Looks like another case of herbicide drift - there have been several incidences about posted this year with pictures just like yours.

Have you been using weed killer of any kind or perhaps a neighbor or the city has sprayed weed killer in your area? It will drift quite far in the air and water run off from sprayed areas is another source.

Depending on what type and how much was used the plant MAY grow out of it. Some do.

Hmm.... herbicide sounds like a possible suspect. I know my husband sprayed close to the garden with roundup. Could that be it?
The leaves aren't browning like I typically see in roundup treated plants, and they aren't drying out. The leaves most affected seem to be the newer growth -- those at the bottom of the plant seem to be in better shape. Roundup is the only herbicide that I know of that's been sprayed in the area, though come to think of it, preen has been used on some adjacent flowers.
If it is herbicide damage, then I guess I can only wait and see if they pull out of it. I had wondered if perhaps my plants had contracted some sort of mosaic virus. The cherokee purple are the worst of the lot, though I'm seeing this on dagma's perfection and stupice as well. Do you think it's necessary to remove the affected plants?

Thinking back, I also think the ortho dandilion killer was sprayed on the adjacent lawn. That was at least a month ago, maybe longer... That might be a more likely culprit?

I would guess the dandy killer sprayed a month ago would have hit the plants sooner.

My money's on the roundup. As Dave said above, they may grow out of it.

WTH is going on with all this herbicide damage this year? Last year it was the late blight, this year it seems to be herbicide damage. One of my plants has similar looking damage although not as severe. Whats strange though is that it seems like only one plant is affected and its planted REALLY close to the other 6 I have in ground.

The local hardware store has more weed killer than fertilizers. Occasionally a lawn care service truck, specializing in weed control, can be seen roaming the neighborhood too. Seems to be a trend around here since it's so heavily advertised on television. Warnings of danger to nearby gardens should be a little more explicit IMO.

That's probably 2-4D damage, not roundup. It could be spray
drift, or it could result from using grass clippings as
mulch if an herbicide was sprayed on the lawn.
The latter is what happened to me. I figured 6~7 weeks was
long enough that there would be no residue on the grass clippings. Unfortunately, that wasn't true! :(

Hopefully they'll grow out of it.

Nano, above you said you don't see the typical brown leaves of Round Up damage, but what glyphosphate does is to cause white areas of the leaves nearest the stems.

How do I know? Well, been there and did the damage myself and below I've linked to a site showing such damage.

Herbicides with 2-4 D in them have different symptoms.

it could be my aged eyes but I didn't see any evidence of Round Up damage in your picture.
