Now you've done it Ann. Gone and brightened up my day again. Here's the story. I drive the country lanes to work because I can't drive fast enough to keep these leadfoots happy anymore. So off I go to work today. We're having a Chinook but there's a snowstorm behind it. The wind's howling and drifting the roads. All the roads are wet and there's snow blowing over it, causing some nasty roads. I get to my last country lane which is never plowed. I have spent the winter getting it into fine driving condition with my Honda CRV. It was gone. I drove a little way in and thought, no use. So I attempted to back out. Screwed up and ended in a snow bank. Two dudes were out cruising on the nice highway located nearby and pulled in. They had a truck with a flatbed hooked up to it and a winch. They got stuck, too but managed to pull ahead and hook on. They pulled me out. I sezz, "You boys each have a twenty and go to lunch on me."(They had the company truck. Boss never knew what hit him.) "Now, Ma'am, (they call you ma'am so you don't think they are rapists) just back up straight over the railroad track and you'll be fine." Off I went. Made it over the railroad track and went in again. This time, their truck was stuck, so they came over and pushed me by hand. No use. "Ma'am, if you let me drive I'll just four -wheel you on out of here." At this point I'll take anything. In he jumped and out I went. "So, I said, "Are you guys going to be able to get out?' They laughed. "Sure we will." I left them there, studying this big old truck. It was a baby semi. I went out the highway and drove on into town with my own little convoy trailing behind me. Round two: Lately I have been planning a You-Tube video called "Nothing wrong with these roads, Luanne." It may be interfering with my concentration. I get home and hit the driveway. Ended up sitting in the middle of Halley's Roses. Hubby comes home and pulls me into the culvert. I step out and and fall in. He pulls me out. He sez, "I'll wait til Pat gets home." Then I went in the house and my daughter called. "Momm, she says self-righteously, "There's a time when we all have to admit we can't drive anymore." I pulled three children out of a snowbank this week. My driving skills are superb when I'm getting THEM out. So out they went when Pat got home. "Mom," he sez,"That was easy."

Mine are doing OK, with the exception of the Fairy. Maybe someone can help me. I ordered Olympiad, Sunset C., and Touch of Class, and two Fairies. I never had a problem growing bareroots in my 90 weather here - I just grow them in the shade for a couple of months. This is what I do: 1. Soak them for 24 hours (roots only, though), 2. Trim canes a little 3. Spray all canes w/ Wilt Pruf 4. Pot them up under heavy shade tree with compost and mulch 5. Cover the canes entirely as much as I can with mulch 6. Throw pine straw on everything 7. Water, water, water! Then continue watering daily. 8. Wait for the shoots to start poking out of the mulch. I've grown MANY late-season bareroots this way. Never a problem. So everything leafed out, but then after forming leaves and poking out of the mulch, one of the Fairies suddenly failed - leaves wilted, then canes turned brown (all while still under the mulch, mind!!), and it's dead now. And you know Fairy isn't even picky. Anyone know what I did wrong? Maybe one of my steps is not good? Someone mentioned soaking the entire plant, but I've never done it that way and didn't have a problem. Maybe that's the key...?? My rose-growing confidence took a hit with this Fairy death. I'm worried b/c all my Wayside purchases went through the same procedure. Only two out of my 9 ordered are leafing out, but canes still green on the others.

Yes there are mini climbers. There are also minis that grow to three or four feet as bushes. Its only the bloom size that makes them minis. You can always put a Ideally, you dig up as much rootball as possible, wrap in wet burlap or wet newspapers and plastic, and take directly to the new site where you have holes waiting for them. If you can't do that, pot them up in the appropriate sized pots until you can plant them at the new house. You want as much of the rootball as possible and some good potting mix, if you have to pot them. If you are going to pot them (most likely scenario, I'm guessing), I would do it sooner rather than later so you can baby them and make sure they are stable in their new pot homes before you're in the thick of the moving process and harried and without time to notice if they are suffering (can you tell I hate moving?).
