3 hours of Sunlight - does it make a difference?

I have a community garden plot, and my tomatoes are happy and healthy but soooo slow to grow. Other people's tomatoes are much bigger and bushier. There are a few differences:

1. I have heirloom tomatoes, most other people have home-depot-bought early girls and typical tomatoes

2. They might have used more fertilizer than me (I used compost but not much specific fertilizer)

3. My plot doesn't get direct sun until about 1-1:30pm.

I have the option to move to another plot that gets sun at about 10-10:30 am, but it is HALF the size of my current plot. I would also have to give up the strawberries and potatoes already growing in it b/c I wouldn't have room to xplant them into the smaller plot.

Does 3 hours of sunlight make a really big difference?
