OT- Anyone growing the Morning Glory Tree ?
Comments (47)Hello all, I grow the morning glory tree. It is not really a tree, but gets real tall about 6 -7 ft here. I have the lavender one and got a white one a couple of weeks ago. You cut them up in the fall like brugs and stick the 'sticks' in water to root over winter. Here in north FL they start to bloom in early summer. They love the full sun here. They do have hairy seeds but I just cut the stalks instead of collecting the seeds. Dee...See Moremoonflower question
Comments (36)This is the only moonflower seed that has sprouted, I have had this seedling for quite awhile, it was looking kind of sickly so I took it out of the window and put it under a fluorescent lamp and it is perking up and I think it is doing better, the leaves are getting bigger and I think it is happy. I water it every time it looks dry on the top of the soil and when I do water I make sure it runs out the bottom, that way I know that I have gotten all the soil wet. Then I let it dry out for awhile and then do it again. When I first took it out of the window, the two smaller leaves were very tiny and now look at them, they certainly have grown. It is strange though, I have planted a bunch of seeds and this is the only one that has sprouted, I can't explain it so I take real good care of this one. Any suggestions or advice will be appreciated thanks....See MoreWhy did my morning glory seeds grow so much in just 3 days!?!?
Comments (3)tlbean, my MGs always come up in 2-3 days as well. I also start them indoors, I've found they slow down a little bit once they get 3-4 true leaves, I figure they're working on their root system perhaps? Congrats on all of your MG seedlings! If you grow anything else don't be discouraged when they don't sprout instantly like MGs! I always get spoiled with them and get impatient when other seeds take several weeks to germinate!...See MoreMoved my MG inside and now the new leaves are warping
Comments (14)have you ever used indoor lights? many require that they be within a few inches of the plant... to replicate the intensity of sun light ... as long as they dont generate so much heat.. to fry the leaves ... and have to be on up to 16 hours per day .... a timer would be a big help .... figure out how close yours needs be ... to be an actual value to the plant ... as noted.. these are not houseplants ... and you are going to have a hard time with them indoors.. over winter ... do the best you can.. ugly as they might end up ... and if you get a flower... congrats ... but dont get all stressed out.. if you dont succeed .... just to give you a perspective .... i dont think i could do it.. with 40 odds years of dabbling in this stuff ... maybe you will find some wisdom here: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=growing+morning+glory+indoors&t=ffcm&ia=about keep us posted ... ken ps: another hard variable indoors in winter.. in the cold north.. is lack of humidity ... because of the furnace.. especially if forced air ... the air just ends up too dry ... and being a vine.. you will be hard pressed to add local humidity ... and spraying wont make up for it .......See Morekaryn1
