need identification of vine with purple egg-shaped fruit

Sorry I don't have a photo to post (no camera). I thought this vine was probably some kind of passionflower, even though I never saw any passionflower-type flowers, in fact I never saw any flowers at all. Suddenly the vine appeared with lots of egg-shaped fruits strung along it, which were green at first but turned dark purple as they ripened. The fruits are very close together, perhaps just an inch apart. When ripe, they begin to shrivel a little, so I pulled off one and opened it up, and it is full of dozens of seeds that seem to be covered in a juicy membrane, sort of like pomegranate seeds are. Inside the seed pod it is a brighter red or purple color, very pretty.

Does anyone know what this is? I suspect I planted it or got it at a plant trade, but that might have been a year or two or more ago, and now I have no idea what it is. Or perhaps it is something wild that moved onto my fence.

The leaves of the vine are sort of pointy, and bright green. The vine clings by tendrils.
