Green Zebra Heirloom tomato - plant in ground or container?

Anyone have experience with this tomato?

We've planted Big Boy tomatos in the past and they got monstrous, but had a tendency to go rotten before they ripened probably due to our humid summers.

This year we are trying Green Zebra. I have it in a clay pot as I have minimal space in my garden beds and I thought this would be better for air circulation. I know clay pots lose their moisture faster, but I do have it planted in moisture retentive soil - should I just put it in the ground?

What's the consensus on fertilizing? I was told if you fertilize before the fruits appear, the growth will go to the leaves. Feedback?
