well linda.. there is the safe way .. and there is winging it.. i thought we were discussing the safest way ... i mean really .. [its been a while] .. but they are hosta... odds are.. you can throw them on the driveway for the summer.. and then replant.. and all but the foo foo ones will recover ... they may not be pretty ... but they will live ... so it doesnt surprise me that you 'got away with it' .... i just wouldnt recommend it as the favored procedure.. lol ... but you cant use them to make tea in tepid water.. maybe the rain kept them in cool water .. who knows ... mel.. back in the day .... if i was going to pay $50 for shipping .... i was going to amortize that cost over 50 plants ... lose 4 or 5 tags.. and your head is ready to explode... when i started... shipping was up to 25% of the cost of the order .... that was the quoted rate ... so on a 200 dollar order.. you do the math .. the local stores had the usual suspects [undulata and the blue one] .. there were no options ... ken

I am in the process of transplanting my water-rooted lavender to soil. I am using a combination of the methods described above + one other which I can't find, or I'd link to. I add wet soil to the container (wet so that the soil doesn't rise to the surface.) I add some pebbles to keep the soil down. The article that I can't find said to use soil withOUT fertilizer bec the fertilizer could burn the roots, but all I had when I decided to start this project, was soil with fertilizer, so that is what I'm using. The article said to daily pour out a little water, and add more wet soil. I am doing this every other day to give the roots more time to change over. It has been about 6 days -- so far so good. The method says after a week, see if the roots are rooted in soil, and if they are take the whole thing out and put in container with soil. I will let you know how it goes. appreciate all the advice given above.

This was my deceased parents' former home in their retirement years-built in 92 (mid-Atlantic area). Similar corner quoins, palladian window with brick/slate roof. The front entry overhang had enough covering to keep visitors from getting soaked, but it wasn't massive in scale. The last time I was flying with a plant (flowering grocery-store tulips) was 2013, and this was the response that I received in regards to a question about bringing them and how to take it through security: "Passengers may request a physical inspection in lieu of x-ray screening for any plant items, and this request may be granted if the Transportation Security Officer (TSO) can determine that the item does not conceal any prohibited items and a physical search will not damage, contaminate, or desecrate the item. Generally plants can be searched by hand if they are not planted in soil, which cannot be hand searched. Please be advised that TSOs have the discretion to prohibit a passenger from carrying an item through the screening checkpoint or onboard an aircraft if the item poses a security threat. Therefore, screening personnel make the final decision on whether to permit items into the sterile areas of an airport. In addition, you should contact your aircraft operator to determine if they have any restrictions concerning the carriage of plants aboard their aircraft." I brought a box with me to send the tulips through the scanner without destroying the flowers; I disposed of the box before getting on the plane. I was flying out of Rochester, though, which can be a bit more relaxed than Logan ... though they're usually okay, so long as your "bags" are properly consolidated/sized.
