Growing Tomatoes

Anyone here heard of or used 'Zoom' fertilizer

Hello, I'm curious if anyone has any insight on my choice of fertilizer. It seems that as I go through this tomato forum and some others, most people use 'Tomato Tone' fertilizer on their plants.

My downstairs neighbor, however, recommended another brand called Zoom. It claims to be an organic fertilizer, and so far has been working well for me. We use it on everything from our tomatoes and lettuce to our flowers. Has anyone else tried this stuff? Is there a reason that 'Tomato Tone' is so popular other than the fact that the name is so suggestive?

I'm not endorsing it. It seems to work decently, but I am really an amateur at gardening, so I don't have a lot of grounds for comparison. I was just wondering if a more veteran gardener could let me know if there was something wrong with it because it seems that most of the veterans on this forum use other products.

Although my disability keeps me from fertilizing as I once did, My best roses grew when I using my homemade organic mix. I then supplimented with fast acting 46-0-0 urea a couple of times during the summer and with soluble fertilizers through a fertilizer injector on my watering system. I also used copious amounts of horse manure, usually applying it during the winter so the nutrients were available available when the roses woke up in the spring. I worked my mix into the soil as I did my spring pruning. By the time it broke down the soil and weather had warmed and the roses were growing and were able to utilize it. Organics are slow release and supply nutrients over a longer period at a slow steady rate. Suppliments were applied in small increments, often. A little fertilizer, applied often, provides steady growth and makes for healthier plants. Here is a link that might be useful: My fertilizer mix

Has anyone here ever heard of the 'Egg rooting method'?

Bob Walsh covers Mimi's egg-rooting method in his book on "How to grow plumeria-frangipani anytime anywhere", btw. Still miss the "Aloha Plumeria" forum though...and Mimi, too. I hope she's happy in her life, and stress-free. I'm currently rooting a bonus plumeria with an egg, and an Oahu Star cutting w/o one, -since I only had one egg available when potting them up. The bonus cutting is showing tip changes on it, already, but I can't consider this a fair test, as the Oahu Star cutting was considerably thicker than the mystery (gift) cutting was, when I rec'd them. To do a fair comparative test, I think I'd have to use 2 cuttings from the same source and root them the same way, (except for placing an egg under only one of them).

anyone use/heard of rubber flooring in kitchen

As spec'd by our architect, we installed Roppe raised design rubber floor tiles (#992, I believe, on the attached web link) in "Lunar Dusk" as the flooring in the entry and stairwell to the apartment above the garage at our lake house. While it has been a great surface for that particular application, I'm not sure I would recommend this floor surface for a kitchen. After one year of use, it does show some scratches and scuffs; I was told by the rep that some colors show this more than others -- very light and very dark colors should be avoided for this reason. I have had difficulty finding a floor cleaner that doesn't leave streaks and a dull finish on the tiles, but I need to do a little more experimentation and check back with the manufacturer to see what they recommend. I do love its durability, especially when my hairy dog tracks in mud from outdoors. Can't speak to how grease affects it, as we haven't exposed it to any greasy stains. Ah, it make sense, the owner of the showroom was from Brazil and she sources her natural stones directly from Brazil and Italy. I have Caesarstone in the kitchen right now. This is so much cheaper than Caesarstone and I am thinking of using it for vanity since bathroom doesn't get as much abuse as kitchen and I just want a simple white color.

It's popular because it's been around for a long time and people have used it for years with good results. It's not to say that there aren't better fertilizers out there - there might be, but a lot of the other ones at the big box stores tend to be "fly-by-night" type companies in my experience.

I first tried tomato-tone because I was familiar with the company that makes it "Espoma" from previous experience with using their holly-tone - which my father has used for years with great results.

I saw zoom the other day too. I'm very skeptical when things say "organic", but I was wondering whether it was a decent fertilizer or not. Let me know how it works for you!
