Passifloras!

Kayjones - I don't know about you, but my passi's don't start blooming until late late, like now. Is there a secret to getting them to bloom earlier? I have 'Incense'.

Morning glories will definitely give you bloom late in the season, but for early season bloom, you might want something like clematis (it does take a couple years for them to establish). Fast growing clematis include the viticelli hybrids, like 'Polish Spirit'. Jackmanii also is a fast grower that will bloom prolifically early in the season, and some bloom later.

I love moonvine flowers! I am sorry to hear that you didn't get to see any blooms.
I start mine indoors in March/April in peat pellets & usually plant them outside in May.
Did you try starting the seeds indoors? If you nick the seed slightly they will germinate faster.
They are fast growers & don't require much care.

I don't do anything special to my Passifloras except feed them a fertilizer with high Phosphorus percentage.
The second major element in plant nutrition, phosphorus is essential for healthy growth, strong roots, fruit and flower development, and greater resistance to disease.

A few of mine don't bloom until LATE Sept. or early Oct., but I just leave them to do their thang, and if they are mature enough, they eventually bloom. My P. vitafolia is just NOW setting bud, but my Passiflora coccinea is a massive plant with not one bud, so go figure!

This year I grew Star of Yelta (deep purple) morning glories with Crimson Rambler (fuschia) morning glories. They looked beautiful together on a white picket fence. I got many compliments from neighbors. I also love moonvine but I get a little impatient waiting for them to flower. It's worth it, though.

Whatever's in bloom! I love all of my vines so much, I don't think I could have a favorite.

Just for sheer delight, I love my 'Heavenly Blue' morning glories and my coral vine. Just when I think I can't stand winter one more minute, my Carolina jasmine (jessamine?)gets covered up in yellow blooms. I'm pretty far south from you, but I hope it helps.

I love MG's, but I purchased a Mina Lobata in June, and pictures just can't do it justice! It has got to be the best $4 I ever spent. It's surely one of my favorites. I never expected it to get so large. I have it on an obelisk next to my deck, but since it had nowhere else to go, it started entwining itself on the top of the obelisk. I believe this picture was taken last month. Right now, the hummers are LOVING it, and the bumblebees and carpenter bees are sleeping on it every night...

WOW! That Mina Lobata vine looks super! How tall & wide does one plant get? Where can I purchase it?

Never seen a mina lobata vine before (at least I don't think so). They look great!

I love aristolochia; for the weird flowers and nice foliage, you can't go wrong! I have quite a few varieties and they are amazing. They grow real big real fast too, but are definitely a subtropical plant (the wild looking ones anyway). I also love Thunbergia mysorensis. This plant does great in an arbor as it dangles the most spectacular inflorescences. And of course passion flowers look wonderful too. For just a weird factor, I also grow ceropegia, many of which are a vining succulent, with very strange flowers. Right now, I'm looking into jade vines, but I suspect, being in Southern Ca., my climate is too dry for them unprotected.

I love the Mina Lobata vine I have never seen one before.are they hard to come by? My favourite vine at the moment is Vigna Caracalla.I have a very large beautiful specimen growing right over the top of my raised deck and the fragrance is to die for.I don't ever want to be without this vine, I just love it.The only drawback is the ants it attracts,but they are a necessary evil because the vine needs them to pollinate.

I just started some Cypress vines from seed in a planter. I know it's too late to have the sprouts (about 3 inches tall now) survive a Colorado winter outside so their inside now in a box inside a sunny window. Does anyone else start vines this way and/or has anyone any experience with Cypress vines? Thanks.

I've decided that since my mandevillas are my only vines (so far) that will bloom nine months out of the year, they're my favorite. ; )

I have just started growing vines. The Honeysuckle plant was outstanding.....re-flowered 3 times and is still going with beautiful berries. Also the Hyacinth Bean and of course....morning glories are outstanding. I also had the yellow black-eyed susan vine, and it is still flowering in October. It was planted as a small 6 inch vine. It took awhile, but now....filled with flowers! Good luck

Have posted this pic in another thread so apologies for reposting for those of you who've seen it before - but thunbergia (this ones African Sunset but apparently Blushing Susie has slightly redder/pinker but still mixed blooms, I'm going to try and grow that one next year). I only grew it from seed this year but I'm very very impressed.

I love my Mandevillas.....constant bloom! Honeysuckle smells sooooo good.
