I have tomatoes on a trellis almost up to the roof. They were planted from seed last fall. Yesterday I saw little tiny worms on them so I am trying spraying with lemon dish soap - Just a little smig in a spray container with water. I am going to try and see how long I can keep them going. They look so pretty on the trellis. I have tomatoes in another garden (from saved seed again) that are doing fine so far. However the watermelon and cantalope near them have what looks like aphids. I am spraying the aphids with neem and lemon soap mixed. Spraying is a pain because those bugs are smart and stay on the under side of the leaves so they are hard to get to. My stuff has so many leaves that I really can't get all of them. My past experience with this organic spraying is that you have to keep doing it every few days because even if you get all the bugs (which I don't) more will hatch. And of course I pick off the leaves that are really infected. But I overcame bugs earlier with my potatoes and strawberries this way so I am hoping.

Sid, I generally see it called Husky Cherry Red; afaik, that and Husky Red Cherry are its only two names. It is a hybrid dwarf, growing to about 4'. [It is not the same tomato as Husky Red.] Large Red Cherry is open-pollinated; the vine will probably grow to at least 8'; and its fruit are usually slightly larger (either a large cherry or up to 2", depending who's describing it). Husky Cherry Red is one of the varieties available at our Walmart, grown by Bonnie Plants (their pots usually have green plastic ring label along the top edge, if that sounds familiar to you). Our Lowe's and Home Depot usually have Bonnie tomatoes, so you might try looking there if there are any stores close to you. [Be aware that Bonnie doesn't ship all the varieties it sells to every part of the country.] If you'd like to buy some seeds and grow your own next year, Tomato Growers Supply and Totally Tomatoes probably carry it.

Likely just the heat causing the plant to be unable to get water to the top new growth. My plants (in Southern Cal) did that during our recent heat wave. Most recovered with watering and the arrival of evenings but a few of the leafs wilted/died permanently, probably because it took me too long to notice-- in the triple digit dry heat + wind here that took about 6-8 hours. Unless the rest of the plant starts showing more symptoms now that we've cool down a bit, I would just chalk it up to the heat and maybe to remember checking on the plants a little meow often during the next hear wave and offer some shade and/or water.

I agree with what Seeker suggested, especially the new varieties from the Dwarf Project. Husky Red Cherry has that deep green rugose foliage and is what's called an ISI ( indeterminate short internode) variety and so it does stay compact as you note. All of the current releases from the Dwarf Project also have that deep green rugose foliage and also stay compact but the project has greatly expanded the fruit colors and shapes than have ever existed before for dwarf varieties. As a side note, I think the Husky Red is the only one remaining of a series of Huskies that were bred by Petoseed many years ago in many different colors. They didn't go over well with the public b'c of the rugose foliage, which I happen to think is beautiful, but was new to most tomato growers at the time. The pendulum went back to dwarf and det varieties b/c of so many folks wanting varieties that did stay compact for container growing and also for inground growing where space was an issue. Right now I have two from the Dwarf Project growing, Iditirod Red and Dwarf Jade Beauty and have grown Summertime Green, Summertime Gold, Wild Fred, and a couple of others. There are two places that carry ALL of the current releases from the project. One is the one linked to above and that's Tania's T-base which you can find by Googling and the other place is Heritage Seeds in CA where Steve also has all of them. I'm just too lazy this AM to go fetch the links, sorry. And other places that were initially sent some of the new ones include Tomato Growers Supply, Victory Seeds, Sandhill Preservation, and they may still have some but the two places I mentioned above have all of them now as will Gleckerseedmen for 2013 if seed production goes well.
