Thanks for the heads up. We had thunder storms yesterday. They tossed around my container tomatoes a little bit, but look none the worse for wear this morning. More thunderstorms tonight though. ~sigh~

I caught a little bit of the news this morning regarding the flooding in Iowa. I don't feel I have the right to complain at all about a few thunder storms. I just feel terrible for what those people are experiencing.

The more people are informed the more property and possibly lives saved.
We get tired of the local stations sometimes and the relentless barrage of weather info but ......... you never know,,,,Out here we have the old civil defense sirens in place during the years of nuclear worry in the 60' -70's and the entire warning system for tornados has improved tenfold.
It seems like a lot of storms marching across the plains reach you guys three or four days later, dissapated some up by you and maybe intensified in the warmer , moist airmasses of the south.
Do you usually get big hail or is this abnormal?

I've lived in New York for 6 years and don't remember a serious hail storm.

I was just looking at some weather sites and strong storms with large hail and high winds are a possibility in almost every county in NYS.

We had the same kind of warnings last week with a tornado alert thrown in twice. And one bad storm did hit but it only hailed for maybe 2 min, thank heavens.

Carolyn, thanks for posting that. Those warnings weren't up yet when I posted this morning. I'm in Onondaga County. It looks like it'll hit just north of where I live (along my path home from work.)

We did have some amazing hail in Camillus, maybe 9 or 10 years ago. It was the diameter of a quarter. My husband & I were driving through it. It did not damage the car, but I think I remember hearing other people talk about windows being broken.

It seems i'm in between the two of you guys in Rensselaer county!

Luckily the hail has not been bad yet here, only a brief (5 min) bout of hail last week. Hoping it makes it through.

My first year gardening, and I'm so proud of the fact that I haven't killed everything yet!

The garden seems to have made it through. We had two rounds of hail. One storm came through around 3:00 pm the other came through around 7:30 pm. The second storm was worse than the first. Two tomato plants and one eggplant got banged up. I think the tomatoes will be fine. The eggplant is looking sad. All & all not too bad out of 37 tomato plants (but only 4 eggplants.)

Here the first storm was much worse than the second. Second storm we didn't have any hail, first one we had dime size hail that poked right threw the leaves of many plants.

I think my 3 broccoli plants are goners, and a couple of my pepper plants :(

Good news is I think the Tomatoes, cukes, squash, peas and beans seem to have made it through.

Here's hoping the rain lets up to let it dry out a bit. I have bad clay soil and while I threw 2 yards of top soil and compost on top of it, it still doesn't drain as well as I would like :(

if close enough why not drive up here sometime and we can talk tomatoes. LOL I'm in the boonies just outside Salem.

We had two storms here also and a brief power outage, but while the storms were close there was no rain and no hail just continous thunder.

We still are very low on rain and this is dairy country and the cow corn out there really needs rain.

Not a bad idea carolyn! I'm not that far, maybe 40-60 minutes from Salem in Averill Park, but I work in Waterford outside of Troy :)

Maybe sometime we can arrange something, I'd love to soak up some of your knowledge, just my first time gardening so I'm learning a LOT.

It's best you contact me since you work and I'm retired andmore available, perhaps later in the season when we can look at my paltry number of tomatoes that Freda takes care of for me. I can't do any real gardening being in this walker. Sigh.

If the DHL delivery guy can make it up here from Waterford every day, or maybe it's Green Island, then Averill Park isn't that far away.

I'm in Suffolk County. We didn't have hail here but very strong T-storms that twisted some of my plants up good. This guy was straight a few days ago. Now he's a bit more flexible but I think he'll be fine.
