Monster climbing spinach-not what I planted last year!

Last spring, 2009, I purchased climbing spinach seeds from a local nursery. The picture on the package was a delicate purplish vine with small green leaves, and tiny pearl like little flowers, and that's exactly what I got. They grew up my deck railing, flowered all summer, and were great. Ths year I purchased the same exact package, and oh my god! I have 3 window boxes of this spinach-it's definatly climbing, but the stems are thick green - not dark purple, or small, and the leaves are huge. It wants to go up and up and it's outgrown it's trellis. NO flowers at all. The spinach is edible, but it's not ornamental. How come what grew this year isn't what I grew last year?
