Over on the Tomato Pest & Diseases forum you'll find a long post called Problem Solver 2. Just use the forum search for that form if it isn't still on the front page. It is filled with links to images of the different tomato diseases. Browse them and see if you can find a pic that matches your problems. Off hand it sounds like you have a fungus problem (the black spots) from your description but I can't be sure without seeing it or a great many more details. If that is the case then spraying with an anti-fungus spray such as Daconil (sold under several different names) will help control it. The purpleing leaves and veins are due to stress - normal for a stressed plants - and will disappear once you ID the other problem and treat it. Good luck. I've got young feijoas in my garden, and I'm in Wellington, NZ. I will have a look and see if there are signs of disease - if I have something similar then it might make it easier to identify. If it was a root problem, the plant would probably be wilting (despite having enough water). I think that this is probably a leaf fungus based on your description. It is quite likely that the plant had it when you got it, just not so obvious. It may be made worse by the plant being in a protected environment in the greenhouse, although the weather lately has been encouraging to fungal disease. Unless you see the black leaf spots obviously getting larger and joining up, it is probably something that the plant can live with. If it was a root problem, it would be worse. In general feijoas don't have too many problems, so I wouldn't be too concerned. If you can, get it outside so there is more air movement - hopefully not gale force winds though. While feijoas are considered wind-tolerant, they aren't "Wellington wind-tolerant". Try and protect it a bit, especially from the southerly, which is the more damaging wind to plants. Also, don't overwater - if the drainage is good and there isn't a saucer underneath, overwatering probably won't be an issue, just don't let the pot stand in water. Don't overfeed as that can make plants vulnerable to disease as well. While I'm greatful that Wellington doesn't have the temperature extremes of North America and Europe (and I'm especially grateful not to be in the snowstorms I've seen on TV lately), Wellington is having pretty extreme weather right now. My rain gauge recorded more than 80mm of rain over the weekend, with gale force winds and temperatures more typical of winter. Unfortunately, it's just a bad growing season for everything except fungi, and there is a lot more disease around. I've attached a link to my garden blog in case you are interested. The tomatoes drying up and dieing sounds like wilt, and this has been a bad year for it here on Long Island. Too much rain/moisture makes it worse, and the black spotting on your peppers sounds like a bacteria, which also is helped by too much moisture. Nsxt year, you might want to plant wilt resistant varieties, rotate your planting, and use a thick organic mulch to regulate the moisture and prevent weeds. Since you don’t have pictures of the dead parts before you cut them off, it’s hard to tell what’s wrong. Is the newer Jude on the left? Or is it the one on the right? 1) It could be rose canker, if the canes turned black from a wound higher up the cane and died back downward toward the base. If you don’t cut back to green healthy cane, the canker could spread throughthe base of the rose and kill it. 2) If I am understanding correctly, this problem Jude is the 2nd one you received. Since it was planted later, the root growth would be behind the 1st one you received, so it would naturally be smaller than the 1st since the top can only grow what the roots can support. 3) In Zone 9, my bareroot planting season is in January-Feb. Planting later in the season also stresses the plant more because the warm temps are telling it to grow green and it will use it’s limited stored enegry to push new growth, but if it has insufficient roots, the canes will wither/wilt and die. If this is the case, you can only wait/be patient and make sure to water well until the plant recovers. (I have a couple bareroots planted late, and I didn’t water it everyday, and this is what happens). 4) If the problem Jude is the one in the upper right, in the corner, it’s possible that the soil on shorter side is drying out faster than the taller side? Have you been checking the soil to make sure it’s evenly moist 1-2” beneath the surface? If these don’t match your situation, maybe someone else will have more insight.
