UPDATE: End-of-Summer Spectacular (Part 3)

Here's our new thread! And here are the rules again...

The rules are simple for this one. Here they are...

1. I'm defining perennials as anything that will be back again next summer. This could include, bulbs, bushes, trees, vines, and of course perennials.

2. Post what you have to give away. Please include the type of plant, number of trades, and any other pertinent information you can think of.

3. When you see something you'd like, request it.

4. Keep track of who you are sending plants to.

5. Send your trades to me by priority mail in time for them to arrive by August 31st. Include with your trades the following... what you are sending, who they are for, and enough postage to mail back to you your package of what you've requested. DO NOT SEND ME ANY MONEY PLEASE. Stamps will work out just fine, and if there are extras I will include them with your return package.

6. I will begin sorting as soon as packages start arriving, and will mail them all back out by September 5th.

7. If you haven't done so already, please e-mail me before August 24th. On that date, I will do a mass e-mail and send you my address for you to use.

Thanks seysonn, Dennis, salavene, Tom, NECM, Bill , Josh, jason, Grace, and Randal. Some of you are being too kind on my picture taking skills...LOL, but thank you all for the kind words. Seysonn: Yes. I'm talking Northern hemisphere...lol. Light and/or frost usually cuts my season towards the new year or so. Regarding yours, I'd say if you're getting ripe japs, the others aren't far behind. Hope you make it before it gets too chilly up there. Dennis: Yeah. Love that Poblano "tree." Caging it was a PITA though. Salavene: Nope. No dehydrator. All depends on the variety. Many thin fleshed i can air dry. Thick fleshed usually get a combination of air drying and a toaster oven that I set to 125F. Some varieties, like Ancho and Guajillo, like a bit of moisture left in them, so dehydrating might dry TOO much. Tom: tanks for the recipe. Not sure if it's something I'm looking for though. The ingredients on a bottle of Tapatio call for Water, Red peppers, salt, spices, garlic, acetic acid, xanthan gum, sodium benzoate as a preervative. I'm "guessing" Arboles and pequins for the peppers only because Cholula lists them on their bottles. I know the two are different but I'm guessing they might use the same peppers but the OTHER ingredients differ.. Just wish I could find more info on recipes for some of these iconic Picante sauces. eg., types of peppers, ferment, no ferment, fresh or dried, how MUCH garlic, and the elusive "spices." Bill: Sorry to hear about your Poblanos. From the looks of your pics though, looks like you still have more than enough to keep you happy for a little while. I think my Chilhuacles are from your stock... Thanks indirectly through Pam :) Let me know if you need some fresh seeds. Jason: I'm not sure if these peppers are something you're looking for. They're very, very mild. And they're more of a drying mole pepper than anything else. But, let me know if you want some seeds. Josh: Thanks. And Thanks for the seeds! I thought I had 2 Chocos and 2 red, but one of the chocos is actually a red. Only been 2 ripe chocos on that plant though. Randal: yep. It's a beast. I'm just glad it's not like some bells I've grown in the past -- grow real tall but produce very little. This guy puts out some pods! And like Dennis said, just keep them from frost and they'll keep trucking for a while. I've read where avocado and citrus growers wet their trees down to deal with frost. It looks lovely and peaceful. Becky, I know what you mean about certain things just don't come out well on camera as in real life like my lilac, but I think the Claudia tulip does look great. Tracy, I love that phlox and your rock garden. Mariann, Tiarella is one of my favorites. That's a great start for a new shade garden. April, That is a pretty clematis what ever the name may be. Ok, they are gone. Now I am down to 2. Two little ones to keep me company. Until September 6th, then I will lose Dan to Pre-K/preschool. Sigh. I am fine. I just have to remember how much I used to get done when they weren't here, asking for meals, snacks and juice all the time! Back to the days of a schedule. Maybe that is what I am sad about. The dreaded SCHEDULE! EEk! Just kidding. I am really not upset. I just hate summer to end, carefree summer days. Love them with all my heart! When there is frost again and no flowers I will really be sad! Carpe Diem! Right Girls? Becki, I can totally relate to trying to control a crowd of kids when trying to shop for clothing in the store. I am going to tell you the cure all story that has worked for me. My mother totally cured me of bad public behavior. She used this method on me exactly 1 time in my life. In church. I have not had to use it yet, but the children all know about it, how bad it is, and how it has left a very serious impression on me since I was 5 years old. I recommend only telling your children about it as a threat. Look away if you do not have a strong stomach for torture and psychological manipulation of small people. Here it comes: My mother was not too happy with my squirming in church one Sunday morning, I was talking, fooling around with my brother, I believe we were both knuckle punching each other. I nailed him hard enough for him to yelp. My Mom had reached her limit! She lightly looped her hand under my upper arm, I thought she was going to move me away from my brother. Then shock appeared in my eyes, then pain registered in my brain, next the tears started welling up in my eyes. My mother leaned down to my ear and whispered "If you cry or make any noise, I will do it AGAIN." While she had looped her arm through mine she pinched the soft underside of my little upper arm with her long nails and twisted the skin over 180 degrees. I sucked it up as hard as I could, little gulps, heaving chest and silent sniffs. I sat perfectly still and never goofed off in church again, (unless I was seated next to Dad, then I quietly goofed off with him, careful not to be caught by mom). I absolutely never ever embarassed her in public again, gone were the days of hiding in clothes racks, and tormenting my brother anywhere near her! Oh yeah, and I made sure that I always made Tom sit next to mom in church after that.

Sorry I haven't been on here lately, I found an injured bat at work and had to take care of him until I could find a rehabber to take him to the vet. In the state of Michigan it is illegal to rehab a bat-seems people still think they ALL carry rabies-You're more likely to get killed by a vending machine than a bat!

Can I get a couple of those wax myrtle plants if no one claims them. I think I may use them for a border from my neighbor when they get bigger, then plant lots of flowers around the front side of them, so from my side, they will be a nice backdrop to the flower bed. I know it will take them a while to get big, but, I have more time than I do money for things like that. LOL

Hope everyone is having a nice week and I am eager to get this all togethor this weekend.

Sure; I will put you down for the wax myrtles; I love the fragrant leaves. I read that if you keep a bunch in the closet, roaches won't come. :-)

Dan I have a question I do the click and ship when I ship my plants can i sent you one to attach it to my returning package back to me,so i dont have to deal with stamps
if so when should i put return date.
I am sorry I have been here much was a bit depressed my bday is saturday and has gotten me a bit down.family is 4 hrs.and money is tight.

flowersareforme, I'm planning on getting everything back into the mailstream on Saturday, August 29th. Click-and-ship is a great way to send packages, if any of the rest of you would like to try it out. For those of you taking your boxes to your local post office, when you do, tell the window clerk that you need return postage to send along with your plants, and they'll help you out.
When you ship your plants, please get a delivery confirmation number and post it in our current thread, probably the one I'll be posting in the morning. That way we can track the packages, and I'll know for sure that I've got them all before re-distributing and re-packing all the plants.
Anyone have any more questions? I'll start a new thread for us all in the morning...

If nobody wants the CL Parsley I will take it.

Also if I can get my husband to go for a drive may I drop my box off at your house? I live on the other side of the state in Ocqueoc, but he has been wanting to come to TC. We were there about a month ago to get him a new camera. Now he wants more.

flowersareforme, sometimes as a swap progresses, things get tweaked for the better. I will be e-mailing everyone my address and shipping instructions on Sunday, the 23rd. I am stopping all trading as of midnight tonight so that everyone will be able to get out and do their digging, sorting, and packaging this weekend, and will hopefully be mailing out their packages this Monday, on the 24th, via priority mail. all packages should be here by Friday afternoon, allowing me to do all the sorting Friday night and Saturday morning. this will allow me to get the packages sent back to you all by Saturday afternoon. The goal is to give the plants the shortest travelling time possible. if all of the boxes are here sooner than Friday, then I will sort, re-pack, and send out sooner. does that clear things up for you?

Linda, good question about the return delivery confirmation. I guess the easiest way to handle that would be for everyone to include an extra 65 cents postage, and I can put the dc #s on each box at the post office when mailing them out, and can post all the numbers once I've returned home.

gmom, yes, you may drop off your box here at my house! it would be great to meet you! when were you thinking of coming to TC? I've asked Brandy to drop off her plants either on Wednesday or Thursday, allowing time for the other boxes to get here. e-mail me, and we'll figure something out if we can.
