My stinky (bug) problem and questions about insect netting

Hello,

Well, this is the second year in a row that my summer crop has been obliterated by stink bugs (the brown variety). They put so many "blotches" in my ripening tomatoes, that every tomato is just one big blotch, and the taste just isn't there.

Every evening I am out there with a rechargeable Shop-Vac sucking all of them off the plants, but the damage they do during the day is still far beyond acceptable.

I have come to the conclusion that I will have to try some kind of "exclusion" approach, with a netting or mesh bag over the plants or fruit. Has anyone tried this approach? I am having trouble finding insect netting for this purpose (all of the online sources seem to be in Europe). I could try mosquito netting, but I am afraid it would provide too much shade (unless I formed it into bags, and just bagged the fruit).

Does anyone here have any experience/recommendations that might help me resolve my stinky issue? Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Ed.
