There is alot of debate about what exactly blue is. Many flowers that are referred to as "blue" are, to my eye, anyway, definitely purple. That could be one explanation. Another explanation could be the differences in light conditions in different parts of your garden or at different seasons of the year. Blues can look purple in dimmer light, and almost pink or white in very intense light. Sometimes when I see pictures of flowers growing in the north, I can hardly believe they are the same ones that I have in my intense light garden. The color differences can be quite amazing. And, finally, there could be a slight variation within one seed strain that might account for the difference in color from one generation to another (especially if it got cross-pollinated with another strain growing somewhere nearby, and that's a real possibility considering how prolific Morning Glories are.)

I looked at my pictures from last year, and I have June 4 recorded as the first bloom or at least when I took the first picture. That seems pretty early to me now, but this spring has taken longer to get going. Here's a pic of it toward the end of June. After this, it grew and grew and grew. I think I needed more support for these, as by the end of summer my hanging baskets were about to fall over. I wish I could find the picture my mom gave me of hers. They were really given the room to stretch and take off on a more solid structure. Here's a pic of MG Cameo Elegance. It's a little more pink in color than the picture shows. The MG Heavenly blue flowers were prettier IMO, but the foliage of the Cameo Elegance is nice and the vines shorter.

Thankyou. And yes I started everything early. My canna's are huge and have been blooming for three weeks. I started everything in a cold frame in the middle of march.I have since added a wire fence to the back of this wood fence to hold up my cup and saucer vine, purple hyacinth vine, scarlet runner bean vine, sweet peas, and a new sweet autumn clematis. Boy that cup and saucer vine drinks more water than my canna's! filix

margo_grow - Is it possible for you to post a picture of your blooms(?)in the morning after they open...as the flowers fade later in the day,they can often turn a 'pinkish' color... The botanical name for "Heavenly Blue" is "Ipomoea tricolor" and there is another cutivar of Ipomoea tricolor known as "Wedding Bells",but "Wedding Bells" has not been comercially available for many years... I have seen a revival of an Ipomoea nil cultivar known as "Candy Pink" mistakenly marketed as Ipomoea tricolor...the seeds of both Heavenly Blue and Wedding Bells are a dark brown to black in color,but real Candy Pink seeds are a light tan color... Ipomoea tricolor is completely glabrous (i.e.,no hair) in comparison to Ipomoea nil which has hairy stems and leaves... Hope this info helps... TTY,...
