Confederate Jasmine

I just purchased some confederate jasmine thinking it would be an evergreen to cover an outer wall of my house. After I did some reading on it, I found that it might not be hardy in my zone. I don't think this is the 'Madison' version. Does anyone grow the regular confederate jasmine and how does it do? Thanks!!!

Star Jasmine is not a true climber anyway. You will need to train it by tying the stem and guiding it to send it's new growth in the direction that you would like it to grow.

The good news is this plant is a great choice for container growing. Why not try it. I container grow mine and love it.

I love my Confederate Jasmine! Evergreen, colorful in the fall and the scented white flowers! I also appreciate the sprawling shape. However, I have lost 1 and had dieback repeatedly on mine here in zone 8a due to winter cold, so I'm afraid they will not survive in your area in your yard unless perhaps you have a really protected place for them. I would try the cultivar 'Madison' which is supposed to be cold hard to zone 7 (Trachelospermum jasminoides 'Madison'). Of course planting it against a south facing wall and mulching heavily with loose mulch will no doubt help during the winter. Good luck! I am not sure what you consider "doing well over summer" is but that vine is struggling!! Struggling hard! It should be a uniform dark green overall - no yellow, brown or red leaves - and dense enough so you do not see the vine. Did you experience any severe cold spells this winter? That looks a lot like cold damage to me. I would be inclined to cut it back hard, mulch well with compost and keep properly watered. As long as the roots have not been damaged, it should grow back quickly.
