They look OK, some might say they're too close, but if you prune them a little they should be fine. In fact they might just do fine with no pruning at all.

Did you mean to say 18"?
Telling from your pictures, 8" is not/cannot be done.
But anyway, 18" is about minimum. It should be ok for some determinants.
But maybe you will have to do some pruning.

Sorry, I have no suggestions about SWEET tasing tomatoes.Some cherry and yellow
varietie are supposed to be on the sweet side. I am sure others will be more specific.

um how about indeterminates because thats what they are they are eva purple balls, great whites, brandywines, ralph red hearts, striped caverns and cherokee purples

With only 8 inches between indeterminates, you may have a jungle. Are you pinching suckers to avoid this, or because you heard that you should?

I'd pull a few of those out of your raised bed and plant them in your 7 gal buckets. Then you can spread the remaining plants out & let them grow without pinching. Looks like you have some gardening helpers that could pitch in if you do.

First and fore most thank you for all of the feedback and Yes I have been pinching the suckers but here is where i am at with these plants i had originally moved them from their 4 inch pots to 7 gallon buckets and then I dug up my little garden and decided it would be alot prettier to grow my tomatoes in the ground however my fear is that if I up root them again that they will die and they already have some yellowing and crisping around the edges of the plants that may be due to transplant shock, Now that i have said that I have place an order and should be receiving my plants some time next week and I will be placing the indetermenates in my 7 gallon buckets but i was wondering what soil i should use? I have been using a mixture of mushroom compost,mg organic, and natural choice potting soil(smells like it would work....) and im trying to go about this in a completely organic way but when i receive my plants next week what should i use as far as potting soil and I was think about cutting the bottoms off of the 7 gallon containers and digging about a foot deep and setting the container in the ground to give the root system plenty of room to develop and I honestly have no idea why im pinching the suckers I think i will let the ones i have already planted be and watch survival of the fittest at its best nature has a natural way of self preservation so they will be fine i think..... can anyone explain or provide me with a link explaining the anatomy of a tomato plant and again thanks for all the help

Yellowing perhaps is due to too much watering or insufficient nitrogen.

Still, you can dig every other one up and transplant. This way they will be 16" apart.
With a shovel make a deep circle and lift the plant up. Make sure the new spot/hole is ready.
Just put the plant in there, hand pack and water, fertilize lightly.
Tomatoes are not that sissy about transplanting. They can take it

One thing not mentioned. Those pepper cages are going to be useless when the tomatoes outgrow them next month. You might consider pounding in a 8 ft 2"x2" wooden stake for each plant to keep the plant and cage from collapsing.

My husband and I are growing indeterminates this year for the first time. I'll post some pics later but for now I'll try to explain how we built the trellis . . .

We used guidelines from the Square Foot Gardening Book:

All 8 tomatoes are in a single row, spaced 12 inches apart (wish I would've done 18"). We bought 1/2" electrical conduit and elbows to connect them. The trellis is 5 feet tall and 8 feet long. Rebar was pounded into the ground for the trellis to stand up on. Then we used nylon netting to spread across the frame and secured it with twisty ties.

I'm keeping one main stalk secured to the trellis and the high winds we've had aren't even bothering the tomatoes! All the work seems to be paying off!

Here is a pic of the tomatoes we planted this year along with the trellis I discussed above:

Hopefully you can see the netting and the bottom of the electrical conduit. The rebar is staked down first and then the conduit slides down over it . . . for added strength we put the braces on the wooden frame. It made it just a bit less likely to whip around with high winds. And I love using thick pantyhose as a replacement for twine or plastic to secure plants to stakes, etc. It is easy on the vegetation yet strong enough to keep the plant intact without cutting into the stems.

I have a feeling your supports, if you're counting on stakes, and spacing are not going to stand up to the rigors of indeterminates! Most people don't prune indeterminates unless space is really really cramped. But see how it goes since they're already planted.

I planted my tomato plants four feet apart in rows 6 feet apart and they are already touching. One plant, a Chadwick Cherry, is already seven feet wide, and the way its going it may grow twice that.

As mentioned above, 18" is the minimum I would go. Below are a couple of images of mine showing 18" spacing. Not the clearest because of the mesh.

I use the cheap cages from HD. I try to limit new growth to inside the cage. If it is outside the cage or will be outside the cage, then it gets pruned off. I have missed some, and have let some like Sungold go a little wild. My problem is not with the width of the plant, but with the height, especially on the yellow pear.

Okay now im really freaking out I hahahahahaha :) my husband is going to kill me i have over 25 indeterminates in my back yard hahahaha my gut hirts i cant stop laughing he is going to kill me when they are fully matured!

I'm hoping to have about 70 indeterminates and 10 determinates in my garden, if the soil ever dries enough to allow me to work it!
