Picked first tomato of the Year!

I am so excited, I picked the first tomato of the year (for me) today. It was started from seed on February 21st, Planted out on April 3, tried to freeze them on April 6 and 7th and picked on May 26th. It is a Tomatoberry. I gave it to my wife and she enjoyed it! Many more on the way.

I also included a picture of my squash harvest from today too.

Makes all that work with the tunnel houses and middle of the night frost watches worth it, right? ;)

I've picked 2 sungold, 1 beauty queen, 1 lemon, around 8 small black oval tomatoes (can't find the tag & can't remember the variety); these were already ripe when I picked them. I've also picked several early girls, which are coloring up in my kitchen. Yes, this looks better than last year to me, too! Good flavor so far & I think all varieties have set fruit. Other veggies are doing well, too - bean & zuke production will soon outpace my demand for them & peppers & eggs are setting fruits, tho they're small due to my sluggishness in getting them planted.

I"ve got my first yesterday and today i' got 3 more. YEA HEAT !!! I have sweet 100's that only have flowers, i don't have much hope for them, the early girls i've planted are the ones i've been picking ... the paste and herloom one's ... well i hope to get a few from them. I'm using Jeanne's list of good tom's for next year and also going to make a planting box in my green house.

Great! So putting them out early has paid off. I was wondering if, with all the rain, you had any advantage. Mine are about a week away. My squash are starting to rev up, but I just saw the Squash Vine Borer flying around them, I've got some nice healthy okra plants going, and we've had a great blueberry year so far. Darn kids ;-)

Hi Illinois neighbors! I planted waaaay late this year, Memorial Day weekend! My garden soil was just saturated with water from all abundant the spring rains and it was cold. So I waited. I started my own seeds mid-April and they are all 4 to6ft tall. Fruit still green. Purchased 4 six inch Celebritys which were planted third week of May. They have orange fruit. Good news, I had the start of early blight,sep wilt. Don't know.Prunded bottom leaves of all infected plants. That was two weeks ago. I spread cornmeal around base and watered that in with a milk/water spray. Apparently that did the trick. No turning leaves now. Plants healthy as they can be in IL clay. Here's a chuckle. Mid July and weather forcast for next several day,low to mid 70's, for highs! and down in 50's at night!. Gee wiz, crazy weather this year. Mid IL has really not no summer. Should be hot and humid. So jealous! I have green cherry tomatoes, a few 1.5" sausages, and a chickpea sized Golden Jubilee. My crookneck squash just got its first female flower...I'm thinking about eating it since there are no male flowers to pollenate. :)

awww...I have a few cherries and omg, a small crooked neck too. The flower above hasn't opened up yet though. two weeks ago I had severl male flowers blooming now they're all wilted. Now the female is sitting there just as proud........gotta love it.

jrslick: How did you grow those from february to May??? Did you grow them in a greenhouse??? I am confused.

flowersnhens: Good question. They are growing in an high tunnel. A picture of mine is below. They were started from seed in my basement grow room, moved outside and planted on April 3rd. Since then they have been growing in my high tunnel. I have used single and double layers of row cover, when needed.
