I guess it depends on the restaurant - Starbucks puts them in those nice silver bags (I can understand why the barristas don't like doing it - makes a mess) or sometimes I'll just get it in white plastic trash bags - loose, but the filter paper is still with the grounds. I've gotten these neat coffee "pucks" which I like. They throw it in the bags for you, but I'd take something to carry them in. They can be heavy if still really wet, and the bags could leak on your car's carpet. I take sterlite containers with me to put the bags in. I just go in when I think about it - I'm not a regular collector.

Marty, I stop at any Starbucks I pass. They bag it up for me in double trash bags. They often carry it out to my truck for me, too. Sometimes, someone has beaten me to it, but I often get quite a lot to take home. As debndal said, they often are still in a puck shape, but easy to crumble into the garden soil.

you have to be on your ties in Arlington, UTA is a big composter and they make regular rounds for the grounds at Starbucks. Sometimes I get lucky.

Oh good. I haven't done this before because I thought I had to pick it up on an assigned day or something. Just dropping by and picking up any, I can do that.

I got the 5 gallon green buckets from fast food places, they get their pickles in, they are free. I would take the bucket to Starbucks in the morning, and then pick it up around 5pm everyday. They said I was doing them a favor. I had to stop in April 2009, because of my knee, I could not pick up the bucket to put in the car. I had bought a carry-on to move the bucket, but could not lift it. I use to do this everyday at work for years, that is how I used my breaks. The Starbucks was in the building I worked in at USAA. I took 8 5 gallons of coffee grounds to the coast every other week. Linda, always, said that was why my bird of paradise always were in bloom. I have to say, I really miss the smell, I am sure my plants miss the grounds. Barbra

What types of plants like the coffee grounds? I've contemplated saving my personal grounds, but I only have houseplants (apartment dweller). Didn't know if any of them would want my coffee grounds.

I have several peace lilies, two orchids, a kalonchoe, and one plant that I guess to be some type of grass.

I save the ones from my home and work. Adds up pretty quick.
Lavatea, I believe roses love coffee grounds. I do throw mine out there from time to time, although most go into the compost pile or worm bin.
