Actually they are of the same genus, so that should work fine.

If there is, I'll reckon we will find out together since I'm growing morning glories and moonflower together on the same fence, along with Confederate jasmine and climbing roses.

Hopefully it will work.

I've done it just fine. In fact,it works out great with the right varieties. A morning opener in one color,an afternoon flower(I've only seen blue)and the moon flower at night. Looks just lovely.PJ

I grew a couple morning glory vines amoung my moonflowers last year and they worked out GREAT!

I will try and find out what the blue MGs were called. I got seeds from my neighbor. What ever you decide DO NOT get perenial MG. It makes Trumpet Vine look like it's not trying.PJ

We have a "Heavenly Blue" MG seed that I'm trying to get started. MGs and moonflowers go together great! Color by day, then, by night, big white "spotlights" that seem to glow with their own light (and FRAGRANT!).

I love them both, but have trouble growing them here in Corpus Christi.

I planted both and only a few came up. This are really spindley and weak looking. I grew some a few summers ago that grew on the fence and bloomed, but during the day the vines wilted pitifully even though I watered them. Is it just too hot here or what?

Marianne, that happened with the MG that sprouted in our yard last year (we didn't plant it; either the previous owners or some bird did) . . . during the summer it looked really sad after around noon. But it grew just fine and climbed right over the fence.

Hey Kathy, that's really a "heavenly" picture! Thanks so much for the kind seed offer (assuming the offer was for everyone on the thread :-) but I already have more seeds than I have space... Hopefully, mine will at least get close to looking this beautiful!!

PJ, thanks for the useful -- and scary -- piece of info. Do they label the perennial varieties as such; do they even sell 'em? I hope not! And I thought the annuals were considered aggressive reseeders.

Marianne, I am only guessing but hope to be of some help. I don't think the heat in Corpus is a problem for either your MGs or your MFs. If both plants are not performing for you, I have to suspect that it's something in your soil - exactly what though, I cannot even guess at that.

Another possibility is "too much care" or "babying." In our experiences with these plants (DW & I), they seem (moreso than many other plants) to have minds of their own - they will grow where you don't want 'em, & not grow where you want 'em.

The volunteers that I've whacked repeatedly with a string trimmer, or torn or sheared runner-by-runner to keep within desired space, almost seem to say "THANKS!" and rebound with a vengeance. In contrast, the seeds I am trying to start right now...so far only 1 of 6 for the Heavenly Blue have shown up, and even that one is a pitiful, reluctant-looking thing. In frustration, I'm about to just scrape bare a patch of scraggly-looking St. Augustine, scratch the dirt a little, and just throw seeds on the dirt and leave them to the mercy of the elements. (I can tell the seedlings apart.) If they sprout, I'll transplant them to where I prefer them to be while they're still small. If none sprout, I'm steeling myself to have an "oh well" attitude. Used to be I could not fail with MFs. Now all we can manage in our garden is volunteer MGs.
