rooting tomato starts (tips)

I am a novice at rooting tomato "starts" from "suckers". Successful with rooting the "suckers" from a Rutgers, my first experiment, also I have read it is possible to root tomatoes from plant "tips" which I am trying - from fully grown Rutgers plants I had in Fl. The "tip" plants look green and strong but no indication of any stem or presently no similarity to a growing tomato plant. Did I misunderstand and these sprouts will not grow into a productive and bearing plant? Are "tips" the ends of the top plant branches or the same as "starts" which are "suckers" and really side branches? href="http://s307.photobucket.com/albums/nn319/caryl145/?action=view¤t=DSC02503.jpg"; target="_blank">{{gwi:1338181}} Thank you for any education along this line.---Daisy
