Seaweed Mulch

Each season, I have experimented with different mulches on my raised, 4 X 8 foot, tomato beds. This year, I plan to mulch one bed with a seaweed,eel-grass covering which one finds along the shore. Has anyone had experience using this material? Do you flush the seaweed with freshwater before using? What results have you experienced? I have used it in other applications (potatoes, flowers, etc.) but not with tomatoes. Abundant quantities are available along the shores of Buzzards Bay.
