Is 40 degrees at night too cold to plant?

I have Big Boy tomatoes started from seed that are appx. 2 1/2 feet tall now growing in a small greenhouse that is heated by a ceramic heater overnight to keep the temperature above 50 degrees. Most nights the heater keeps them at 55 degrees. I am anxious to get them out into the garden to cut back on the electric use of the heater. The weather is predicting mid 40s for the next 10 nights. Is that too cold for the plants? Will it deform or hurt the production of tomatoes? I have several flowers on the plants now and have been moving them in and out of the greenhouse for 3 weeks now to harden them off. However, last Saturday, I put them out on the deck while I was away for the day and some of them suffered wind damage where the leaves shriveled and now look half dead. Thanks so much for any suggestions...I've worked so hard to get this far, I'd hate to really mess up now.
