Fran, I've been having a hard time deciding too. There are so many nice boxes out there. It is just one of those deals where you need to close your eyes and grab one! LOL!
I did try to make sure I was keeping a few certain boxes in play for a little while longer while making a grab for some of my wants! (wink!)
I know, it is sooo hard to chose just ONE omg, there are some really nice ones. NOT that they all aren't but like Lisa, I have some of the things in a few of them and I want to make sure I get the most plants that I DON'T already have. You know to max out the selections. I would be happy with any of them, but I would be elated over some of the others. I am please with the box I have now BUT if for some reason I don't get to keep it, I will not be too upset over any of them.
I think I will end up going over the trade list of whoever gets my box and see if I can send some of their wants if I have any of them. I am planning on hitting the nursery before we mail out so I may pick up a "want" from there too. Hmmmmmm. Pondering on who may end up with it.
Need to STOP looking at the box contents, Tracy I just realized you have a Fern listed I have been collecting ferns this year, I was looking and the Echinaceas you have in your box too. WHICH I REALLY want too, so this is just TOOOOOOO hard LOL...
I think since everyone else has hit the hay I will too. I am getting sleepy finally, I haven't taken any meds much today so I haven't been as sleepy but it is coming on now.
I am sure Annie went to be now too, she hasn't posted of late...
G'night, sleep well. Tracy don't stay up too late pondering hehe. (or is that PLOTTING?) :) Fran
I was just going over all the threads to check the counts and realized that my box contenets really should be changed because I lost two of the plants. I posted about it but it got missed. Here's the list of what my box will contain.
echinacea-green envy obedient plant-miss manners carex-red rooster sedum-blue spruce pulmonaria- roy davidson geum-lady startheden campanula takesmana-elizabeth lily of the valley-pink helianthus-lemon queen ligularia-unknown cultivar heuchera-blackout...new nursery plant heuchera-harvest lemon chiffon..new nursery plant false solomons seal plus a non garden item which I posted pics of for the winner to choose.
Tracy, I knew you'd sneak on last night! I ended up watching tv, and fell asleep in the recliner. I checked back in before going to bed, and you all had said your good nights already. I was too tired to do anything else anyway. I'm still tired. I can't wait for Sunday morning, when I can sleep in.
Good Morning everyone! (stretch!) I see that we are off again and picking packages.
Shirley, (chuckling) is there a prize for the lowest trick of the month? No, I didn't go to bed yet. I was sitting in the living room watching some tv.
Karen, you know me too well. I'm sorry I made you doze off in the recliner. I should have given you a nudge before I went off to bed. Don't you love Sunday mornings? Ahhhhhh.
Alana, I'm sorry I didn't help you out. I just needed a second swipe at Pat's box. It has some good stuff in there. I was afraid if I did it while Shirley was still up then she would whack me one.
It's a beautiful day here. The sun is out and the birds are singing. I think I will get outside for a while.
I have the day free until about 4 so I am lounging around the house. I went to the Liquor Barn on my way home last night, so if anyone gets thirsty, I am stocked up. Could whoever had the garden helper please send him over? The FIRST one of course. I think the other ones have already been here.
Photo of the very Mocha Heuchera division that will be in my box.
OK well, I see nothing is happening yet and we are now waiting on Carmen again. Hey, I feel pretty secure with my box so I think I'm good LOL. I KNOW ya NEVER know with this group of ladies so I will check in again but for the moment I have to go outside and pot up some herbs I started from seeds. I did them by the baggie method and if I don't get them out of there their going to rot, should have already had some of them in dirt but since I was sick I just didn't feel like it.
I have a question for anyone who has ever started St. John's Wort from seed....HOW did you do it? I have tried it a few different ways and I yet to make it happen. I need advice!
OK, I'm off to play outside some more.
Have fun ladies, I will check back later, :) Fanna
Good morning girls I'm at work till 8:30 or so tonight so being that no seems want my box, if it's ok with you all I will pick my own and that way noone has to wait on me for the rest of the day and I will be gone all week-end. I will also save on postage as someone sugested earlier. great idea!!!!!!
I will be on the road for a good part of the day. Heading down to the sea shore to visit family. I will be back tomorrow night or Sunday but I will check in a few times if my parents dinosaur will work. Or I may instruct my hubby to post for me. He thinks you guys are nuts but funny.
Anyway I am safe for a while since we are still waiting on Carmen and she will not be able to steal back from right away. He He.
Aww Carmen! :( I like your box!! I've only gotten one chance to pick, though. Don't work too hard today, and have a great week end, we'll miss you. You better stop back in tonight!
OMG, do you guys know what I've discovered? There is a Shelby Series of Daylily! I must get some of these just because. For your viewing enjoyment check out the link
AHHH Carmen, I like some things in your box, I just can't grow some of them. I would LOVE to have these though!: Heuchera Creme Brulee' (need it it's a Heuchera!) Lemon Grass, great for lemony tea (killed it, need it again) Hydrid Hosta "Sunhosta"beautiful large white flowers for in the SUN wooohooo (well it's a HOSTA) Juncus Twisted Arrows (well, because I lost mine!)
SO, don't think no one wants your box, we do it's just that the one I have picked so far has things in it I want to share with a dear friend who shares her garden with me.
AND when I said we were waiting on Carmen again, I just meant we were waiting on someone. You are not the only one we have waited on, that is part of the game. WE KNOW it can take all month for this to be over considering we are not sitting in the same room together. We also understand that some of us work and have other obligations so don't think anything negative about anything. Look how long it took for MY box to get picked and I had to BRIBE Vic to pick it! :) Fanna
Thanks Alana, I was a little surprised by the deep shade of yellow that it has. I expected it to be a lot lighter.
I'm not sure what to do here. Is Carmen allowed to choose her own box and can we let Alana pick now? I would love to see her be able to but am not sure what to do.
Well Miss Annie, to get Miss Vic to pick my box I told her there would be goodies in it pick JUST FOR HER if she chose my box LOL, and adding another plant helped to I think hehe.
WELL Tracy Girl, I was wondering about that myself, just don't seem right that the girl is keeping her own box, but she hasn't peeked back in yet and it don't seem fair to keep Alana waiting either....
SOOOOOOOOO SHIRLEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY WHAT DO WE DO NOW??????????
I think I will wait for our hostess to make a final ruling. I hated to see Carmen leave and I'm perfectly happy either way. In the meantime, I will walk through the garden and think about whether to grab the books to replace the ones I lost earlier this year, or try to steal a box to extend the game and parlay it into a replacement garden for the one Tracy blew up. I need to think.
I figure, if we all keep playing over the next 3 or 4 years, we'll all eventually have everything offered in this game anyhow! lol But then again, there will be a bunch of new stuff we've all accumulated by then anyhow... at least, that's my plan!
Tracy, I love what you've posted. It's just such a hard choice!
So, do you ladies play a game/swap every month? Not that it matters for you zone 8/9 people, but what about winter? Book swap? I'll be in school come fall, so I'll have a little less opportunity to be on (although we have computers everywhere, I'll be 90 minutes away from my garden, & only here on the weekends).
Thank you Tracy! That is a very generous offer, but I have Sunrise. It was ugly in my garden even before you blew it up. The yellow is kind of muddy looking and not the clear bright color yours is. I wonder if it is that I got an inferior plant (or mislabled), or the conditions in my garden are not favorable? I don't have a photo as I don't document my disappointments with the same enthusiasm as the successes. but I may take one to scare people with.
I think Tracy should replace your plants Alana, that really wasn't all that nice for her to overkill your garden! Punishment should be replacements LOL.
We do swap each month BUT in the winter months we so stuff swaps not plants because well, plants don't like the cold.
Alana, I bought a bunch of the Sunrise last year and only 2 came back for me. I wonder if it is a weak variety. This one is in the bed in front of the house and gets intense afernoon sun but big drinks of water with the soaker hose when I remember to turn it on. I don't have much love for that bed as I don't spend time out there. I'm trying to get it together out there though.
Generally speaking, I don't document the ugly ducklings either but I do on Clematis. So many of them look cruddy for years on end until they grow up. Whenever I see something wonky with them I take a picture and save it in the "uh oh" files. It's helped with asking the experts over on the clem forum and then showing even newer newbies images of some of their common ailments.
Thanks ptilda! I'm glad you like the pics. I love that Bradfords Beauty fern with the hosta. It is so big this year and makes an awesome backdrop to the mid size hosta.
Fran, so pick my box. LOL! I posted the fern for you so you could be a little more tempted besides the moonlit masquerade dl. : P
I was thinking of picking Carmen's anyway if I got the chance because it has Fairytale Pink in it which I somehow never got around to getting, and that Blackberry Waffle Coleus would be a nice one to winter over to start plants from in February. I have been deprived! Robbed without ever having had possession! Carmen!!! Come back here!!!!
