Yes, it does look very much like Yellow Brandywine. I think one of the reasons it looks like it does is that it appears to be two fruits fused together thus making it look more like an heirloom.

I have a Canon PowerShot A620 (7.1 Megapixels). It's a really nice camera and fairly affordable. I think when it first came out I paid $320 and I had a decent rebate to apply which brought it down about $50. I've had it about a year and a half or so. One thing I do is I take all of my photos at the highest resolution and save to my archives. They way I figure, I can always reduce the size but can never go back up and the higher resolution allows you to more to work with without losing picture quality.

Is your tomato really that orange? Lemon Boy should be a very pale yellow inside, even if the skin, with heat and as it gets fully ripe, goes to a medium yellow. It is a hybrid - did you use the hybrid, rather than saved, seed?

Just curious, since I've never seen a pic of Lemon Boy when it looks so orange.

Bravo! I love Lemon Boy, and I grow it every year. Actually tastes lemony to me. A very worthwhile hybrid!

My yellow brandywine were much more regular in shape than those, and a lot more yellow. In fact I was surprised that it was not more gold after reading some descriptions. But it was clear yellow beautiful uniform fruit that tasted disappointly just ok. This year my yellow toms didn't germinate and I had so many others that I didn't try a second time. I think they were the only ones I had zero germination on.

Yes it's hybrid seed. I also bought a couple of plants of this variety as well so I can compare with those. It may be a while before I get ripe fruit on the others because I basically had used them as filler plants for a couple of open slots that I had and planted them much later. Thats a pretty accurate representation of the color. The reason I say that is because I took that picture outside in cloudy conditions so the pictures are not as "bright" as they should be. But the orange coloring was definately there as pictured. I hate using the flash on a digital camera as it does bad things to the picture quality (LOL). That or I don't know how to use the flash properly. Anyway, I'll get a photo of the next ripe fruit from that plant and will post it this weekend or sooner if it is ripe. This is the first time I've grown L.B.

I have grown both and I actually prefer Lemon Boy variety over the Yellow Brandywine. They are both good tomatoes though.

The Lemon Boy I grew 2 years ago were very regular shaped almost perfectly round, and a very bright yellow.

Of the yellow/gold types have grown Lemon Boy, Yellow Brandywine (both delicious), Jubilee (terrible), Yellow Roma (bland and mealy)

For me the most beautiful and fun to grow were the Lemon Boy and the people I gave them too liked them the best.

This year I am back to Yellow Brandywine for a change of pace

Another great thing about Lemon Boy is it has always been the longest producing tomato plant in my garden.Usually the first and the last tomato I pick. Long after the others were burnt toast it was still kickin them out. I planted four this year.

Good growing ! Could be because of double-blossom, but I agree with Craig: most of mine have been medium round alittle smaller than a baseball yellow tomatoes ~ They were productive and we loved the taste ~

Oh, that is SO cruel!!! I won't have any ripe tomatoes for a month or more! Those pics are MOUTHWATERING! I tried out Lemon Boy for the first time last yr and really enjoyed them.
I am in zone 8 also but that cold snap really kept my plants from growing- except the Brandyboy and they have only just got blooms. Brandy

Jay, neither one of those fruits look anything like Lemon Boy. It tends to be consistently round, uniform, smooth shouldered, and true yellow throughout the interior despite variations in spring climate here.

I second that suze9. I've been growing Lemon Boys and Yellow Brandywine a few years now and those do not look like Lemon Boy they look like Yellow Brandywine. If you grew them from seed than that is indeed strange, if you bought seedlings some where I would guess the tag or plant got switched anyway I love LB but I prefer YB and usually don't get a big crop of them so if it is YB your lucky.

Brazovallygardener, there's an easy way to tell the difference. Yellow Brandywine would be potato leaf and Lemon Boy regular leaf. If it's RL its not a Yellow Brandywine.

Folks are agreeing with what I opined back on May 24: those tomatoes do look like Yellow Brandywine, not Lemon Boy. In both color and shape; and now we have seen two of the fruits.

Hey folks, it's nice to awake to some sunshine for a change. Picked a 1 lb+ Brandywine on the way to work. There was a calling card left nearby from a hornworm and no way was I going to take a chance (LOL).

Regarding Lemon Boy (maybe), I've never grown Lemon Boy before and so I can't compare to past growing experiances. It is regular leaf though, not potato leaf. Yellow Brandywine I have grown numerous times in the past along with a number of other large yellow varieties. The Y.B. plant currently in the garden is potato leaf. I've sampled both of the fruit pictured above and they in no way taste like Yellow Brandywine. LB and YB would not register anywhere near each other on the flavor spectrum. On the topic of fruit shape, I've seen unexpected shapes come from varieties that are suppose to produce perfectly round fruit before. But thats not to say there is not an issue with the variety pictured above. It was grown from a fresh unopened pack of seed.

If there was a year for controvesy with varieties this is it. I purchased a few plants this year from a reliable source in Houston only to discover that their Black Krim ended up being Black Prince.

I'm interested in seeing what comes from the other two plants of Lemon Boy that I have growing in the garden. Both of the other two plants of Lemon Boy were purchased as plants.
