where can i find seeds and plants

new to this part of Texas, im in Spring (North Houston) looking for a good place to get seeds and plants here, also looking for someone who has been garding here for some time so i can pick you'r brain for help. Thanks for you'r help

Hi beeman;

I live in Spring too. Have been here for almost 30 years. I don't know how much help I can be, but i'll sure try. Can't speak for anyone else, but seeds that grow good veggies, are hard to find locally. I use the internet a lot, but through trial and error, I pretty much know what varieties work fo me anyhow. I have a hobby greenhouse, so I start many, if not most of my own plants, that way i'm not at the mercy of the 'box stores' and what they sell. ( i've learned that they could care less if they do well for you or not, once they go out the door....) I think I answered another post that you made on this forum earlier today (getting old and feeble..) but feel free to email me if you need additional info. jlandwert@sbcglobal.net

Mercer trade is going to be April 17th. Mercer arboreteum. Look on the exchange page for list of wants/haves, food. That is if any of us have anything that lived through the freeze! Come join us, you'll hae a blast.

I am not familiar with varieties but it sounds like hybrids since it is named varieties. You have to be sure they will come true from seed to begin with.

Buzzy, I'm guessing that you're question hasn't been addressed because any of us would have to do the same legwork that you need to...check out some of the reputable seed houses and see what's on their lists. I'd expect that you could find seeds for those plants 'fairly' readily...maybe not at one mail order location, but probably between a couple. It's very common for me to buy seed from a couple of different locations. Maybe you could narrow your search a bit, and just look through 'fragrant flower seed'. beeman; I get my onion plants from Dixondale farms by mail. they have (my opinion) the best onion plants i've found and they're in carrizo springs, Tx. If you don't want to go that route, you might try Haydens feed store (located on Airline, just north of 1960 on the left) they are a treasure-trove for garden products, and i've found them to be much cheaper than the 'box stores' too! Don't know which side of I-45 you live on, but you might want to check out the arborgate in Tomball. They have a lot of selection for plants, trees, etc. some are (my opinion) a little pricey, but good selection for our area.

How is the pricing at the Mercer Plant Sale? I recently heard about it a month ago. I am interested but not certain if the selection and prices are worth driving an hour or so for, since I have never been.

Hate to be Debbie Downer but I tried the Mercer sale once in the heat and said no more...the whole bus ride from across the street and all picked over stuff...not worth it.

I live in Mem NW off Louetta and Champion Forest. So let me make some suggestions:

Plants for All Seasons on Louetta...plant choice is up and down. But the 2 guys that run the place are so nice and helpful.
Arborgate...mentioned before...awesome...worth the drive
RCW...again plants are hit and miss, but they have great natives choices.
Worth the drive to Houston:

Another Place In Time ( I go several times a year)
Wabash on Washington
Buchanans ( same street as Another Place in Time)

Also go to Jerry's Jungle page ...I go every sale he has. He has awesome tropicals...not sure how the freeze affected him though.
