dodge...first of all you may have to remove some or all of the infested foliage! Sorry to say if its a real bad case of scale. Spraying isn't helping I see. Now you need to get down to business! So you need to swab the alchol on the infested parts! After the alcohol dries then you rinse real well.And apply with horticultural oil.I would also repot the citrus in sterile soil and water it well.Make sure that you wash the pot or container out as well with a soapy solution and rinse well.***Suzanne

Those raised black spots are probably common bromeliad scale, at least that is what we call it down here. It is not as aggressive as white scales apparently, and I never treat for it. The slimy stuff actually sounds like some kind of insect is making a home on one of your leaves and leaving a trail behind. For both of these problems, use a product that contains Daconil, or really any insect oil that they sell at your local store will do. I would make sure it is topical because systemic products don't work well for indoor plants unless they are being grown in serious heat and humidity.

Thanx Shaun, actually with all of the rain the past few days it seems to be clearing up. After a few months of having these palms(there are two in one pot they were sold that way) my thought was "what a dud, now I know just how slow these suckers are" The past 10 days though with all of the heat and rain they have really spead up. The new spears are growing nicely. I'm now very exited about them and want them to stay healthy. I enjoy all of my palms but it's nice to have some good old american ones.

White Sapote should have deep green leaves, and i think you've hit the problem on the head--nutrient. Now, without looking it up and trying to recall my word association to remember stuff, I believe yellowing on old leaves (interveins, etc) means either the iron or magnesium deficiency. Either way, use a citrus fertilizer as your main slow release to prevent the deficiencies on the fruit tree; a mild (diluted) water soluble may help diminish the yellowing, as a foliar application and in the soil. Dont overwater tho in the process, it's winter.
