I haven't had any issues w/ powdery mildew at all! My SW is not tall but holy COW it is dense and full! I'll try to get pics of mine. I still have my original: Diabolo - tall and arching, gorgeous. i love her. dark foliage, flowers well and the bark is great. Coppertina (yes, that's the one I had...not Center Glow...still hard to tell the difference though. perhaps if grown side by side...?) - incredible foliage...I think perhaps the prettiest in color. Shorter than Diabolo, about the same density. Dart's Gold - tall and lanky, gold as all get-out. i think about trimming it but it's like a giant arch...kinda cool maybe..and i'm lazy lol Summer Wine - the motherlode. this sucker is HUGE. this little twig o' mine turned into a VW of lush, gorgeous dark foliage - flowers like a monster. i have to say this one is the winner for being vigorous! Also picked up Burgundy Star on scratch and dent for 4.50. She has been repotted and is waiting for me to put her in the ground (just have to get up the umption to dig up a sand cherry...UGH).

Okay, Smith Red Valencia is frequently available - I would try calling around your local larger garden centers. Usually Walter Andersen Nursery in Poway or San Diego has it or can get it, same with Armstrong Nurseries - they can usually find one for you. Not sure if Clausen's has them, you can try calling them to see. Lee x Nova is carried by Walter Andersen in Poway, that's where I got mine. Valentine is propagated by Durling Nursery in La Paz/Fallbrook. That is a HOOF, let me tell you, but they do deliver, and frankly, it's worth the delivery charge as they are way, way the heck west of Fallbrook literally out in the middle of nowhere (almost up against the east side of Camp Pendelton). You can also ask them if they ship their Valentine's to a nursery close to you, and possibly set up a special order with your local nursery through Durling's. CCPP allows you to order budwood. You would have to know how to cleft of bud graft, you would have to purchase rootstock, and you'd have to have the ability to keep your grafted trees in a moist environment. Citrus grafting is a little trickier than, say, stone fruit grafting. And, there is a wait of several years before you would see a tree large enough to support fruit. Patty S.

My canned (as in boiling water bath processed for 10-15 minutes) jalapenos and habaneros get hotter the longer they sit. Of course I start out with pretty hot peppers. If crispness is a concern you may need to use pickle crisp or do a lime soak.
