Those bloom pannicles are really beginning to pop! It will be interesting to see how many fruits set under your growing conditions. I guess the cool weather your tree encountered tricked the tree into flowering early. Here Cogshall will bloom between Jan-Feb, after we have had some cool snaps. Best of luck with it!

That is my biggest concern. I may be able to create enough light for it ti grow and bloom, but I am not sure about the heat from the light that is needed to develop the sugars to make the fruit sweet. Any idea how long it takes for fruit to develop and ripen?? Thanks for the support!

I don't think I can really give you any valid opinion on the heat necessary to sweeten your fruit. Here, the flower to fruit time is 3-4 month depending on temperatures and rain. You are in uncharted territory, I am afraid, at least as to my knowledge. But, it'll be fun to observe how it goes. Here we have off and on cool then warm weather during the blooming months and then warming into May and June when it gets hot. But, since I have had some March fruits (like Martinez and Rosigold), I am not sure that how much heat plays a role in the ultimate fruit maturity and taste.

BTW...I have fruit setting right now on my Martinez.

I have another question. Long periods of rain with cool nights and days (temps in the high 50's and low 60's), would that cause that black mold? I am going to spray it again tommorrow. That will be the second application of Copper. I will keep everyone posted as to how temps affect the fruit sweetness.

I suppose it could......but again, since our dry season and cold season coincide, I have no experience with long term cold and wet. One thing for sure....wet breeds many types of fungus.

Oh Harry, I think I know I am in big trouble now. Now that I have a mango blooming, I NEED MORE!!!! Every time I go to GW, I type in mango pics. I see all the mango that people grow in FL and now I want another tree. I started thinking if I put up hallides in my basement I bet the mango would flourish. I was amazed that when I moved all my tropicals in during a cold spell, the mango was the only one that did not lose its leaves. Within the first few days the key lime and Moro blood orange started to defoliate, but the mango had buds bursting! Thereis one thing in my favor right now. Winter is almost here and I can't buy another mango until the spring thaw! Thank god, otherwise I would probobly sleep in the basement and my apartment would be filled with mango trees! Hopefully by spring I can have some rootstock going strong, but I know I want to buy either a Lancetilla, Nam Dac Mai, or another with a spicey flavor. I know Lancetilla does not have spicy flavor but a mango that could produce a five pound+ fruit!!! I am in deep trouble.....I need to hurry up and finish with college so I can get a house with a big greenhouse. Maybe I can have my own mango grove under glass!!!

Ah yes, the "mango bug" has a vicious bite....once bitten, the poor victim loses his mind and can't stop buying fruit or trees or whatever mango he can find. Its pointless to resist. So, wait until spring and then just grin and bear...I mean grin and buy it!

I'm not sure that I would attempt to grow Lancetilla in a pot. Nam Doc seems to be more manageable...at least at my house. But that 5 lb fruit is intoxicating, I know. Nam Docs can be pretty good sized mango though.

I have seen pics of people growing Lancetilla in pots. I know that they grow fast and are more open in form but I want to give it a try. Anybody who has pics of this in a pot could you post the updated pics for me? Thank you!

This picture was taken during the summer months.All the growth has harden off and produce 12-18in on new branch.I will try to take picture of the tree how it looks now.I am located in So.California and all my trees stay outside all year..

I am downloading pics right now of the new flower buds developing. You can clearly see now that I am getting actual flower spikes and not leaves. The small leaves are dropping to reveal the actual buds. In a few weeks I believe they will have opened. I have been blogging with a couple people and I think the cool fall weather here has caused bud formation just like ohiojay.

I had better ones that I had just taken but I cannot find them on desktop. This picture shows the bottom buds and the small leaves that cover developing buds. The little "covers" fall off everyday exposing more buds. I was hoping that I was getting new wood but instead I have flower buds. I am going to let them develop as far as they can and see what happens. When I find the other pics I will download them.

When i was in Ft. Lauderdale last Jan i noticed a lot of huge mango trees in bloom. God its beautiful down there!

I also would like to know about micronutrients. I have read quite a bit about there use but I am not sure what to use for this. I really don't have access to that stuff here so if anyone could give me a website that I could buy it from that would be great. So far I have been using miracle grow for graden plants and slow release fertilizer. i have not had any burn and the tree is blooming so I think all is well for now, but I want to be able to give my tree that extra boost while the flowers/fruit are developing. Any ideas? I would also like to go from chemical to organic gardening. I would like to know that what I am eating is not full of chemicals. Thank you all!
