Will extreme heat affect young plants?

Hi, I'm new to gardening and to this board. My questions are How hot is to hot? and Will high temps cause plants to be sterile? I planted my seed on April 9th and just a few weeks ago moved them out under a small hoop house. The thermometer sits on the grass next to the trays and on some days reads 120 degrees. I know that this is probably false reading because it is laying on the ground. My plants look pretty good for being a month along. I think so at least But I worry that once out in the garden they wont produce. Does anyone know if such temps affect plants before blooms have set or is it only after bloomming that such temp affect the plants. I do my best to keep the soil moist. There is a lot of condensation on the plastic cover during the day, is this bad? Please help if you can Thank you.
