Pardon me for breaking into your thread. Can I ask for more about NBD? Does it grow a regular sized red tomato? I love stipice or matina , but am looking for some thing larger, the tomato that is, not the plant. . Where can I find seeds?

kid, it's a pink and you get descent sized tomatoes off of it, around 10-12oz.

Also, Tumbling Toms will grow in a standard hanging basket, but they will keep you on your toes with watering.

Kenny, NBD never takes 90 days for me. It's a great tomato, especially for containers.

Peebee, I've grown NBD in a 5 gallon container and it worked fine.

I have not yet grown NBD. Are the tomatoes misshapen -- as is frequently the case with "heirlooms?"

But to answer your question about container size, a good rule of thumb is to allow 1 cubic foot of planting mix for each "regular size" tomato plant. That is about 7 gallons. Of course, that will vary a bit with the plant size, but I've found it to be a good starting point.

I ordered NBD this year from Victory Seeds and look forward to planting it. I will use a 5 gallon pot. I read it was a 56 - 72 day plant.

I've grown NBD only in the garden, and given free rein, it really wasn't all that short a plant - 4-5-ft? and even the thick branches needed support, especially once the tomatoes started getting heavy. I would think planting in a pot would diminish size and well as speed maturity. I found the tomatoes to be fairly uniform without cat-facing, not sure what woodcutter would consider misshapen. Perfectly round smooth tomatoes are only one of many possible normal shapes for tomato varieties.
