Not for the faint hearted- pictures

Good Morning All;

It is pouring rain here and thunder no lightning. We have not seen the sun since it briefly appeared on Saturday and before that it was a solid week.

Here is what that has done to my gardens.

There are many of these this size all over my plants

Too much water is not a good thing!

Here is a little slug but if it keeps raining he will be as large as his cousin in my lily

For those of you who think garden snails are a myth!!

I'm invaded by Japenese beetles! They're everywhere..you're right..we need some sun!

Thanks Monte. Early doors yet but I feel I'm progressing. This would certainly stack up with the prize winners I saw at at a bonsai show yesterday. Acers that hadn't even been LIGHTLY pruned for the show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They look better because I'm shelling out reasonably bucks for decent pre-trained trees. That being said, I must have some sort of an eye for a potential bonsai as the stuff I have growing in a field at the moment looks better every time I look at. Some of it was purchased over 8 years ago but it took me all this time to actually realise (rather then tacitly agree) that it needed development. I see the mountain hemlock is looking good over there BTW and ......... you reckon you're in credit at 1 mill trees? Does that the years of skiing damage into account as well? :-)

2nd & 3rd pics are very helpful!!I see you have a Ca. pipe system.LOL can you get that down where it can be covered with dirt. PVC pipe doesn't last too well in the sun. Pipe is going towards front door,is there a sprinkler on it?? May be water going into house, we have lot of Micky-mouse plumbers.If it can't be lowered get a couple of pieces of pipe insulation in brown & slip over it so will last longer & not show as much.Comes in 6 ft lengths & you open the slit & pop it on. I would widen the front slab to be 1 piece & come out about a foot past the lower step doing away with that planter in front of windows. That way you could turn around etc. If you don't have to have that railing there you might remove it & use it somewhere else, I think 1 of those wrought iron ice-cream sets, small table 2 chairs would be great in front of those windows & give you place to put stuff down while you are opening up the door. If you get the walkway going something like the red lines with some plantings on streetside of walk then you would have a fairly private front patio that you could use & enjoy. It just all looks so inconvenent now! Hope you are getting a feel for what you want to do.

I think that I might have 2 green thumbs, but i think that i might have 1 brown pinky finger ( not everything grows as planned ) the garden sculptures were given to me, (sorry, no weekend plans) they are made out of fired ceramic. and very heavy. they came from a friend that rented a flat, (they were in the backyard) his land lord told him that when he moved out he could take them, well he moved into an apt and couldnt take them so he gave them to me. They were made by a tennant that used to live there years a go (some artsy person) and nobody remembers this persons name. I should contact that landlord and see if i could track this person down!! I didnt make them, just had to put them in my car (which was not easy at all) and take them home (6 blocks) Paul

So, please, start a new thread (several of them, if necessary keep the image quantty manageable): Fewer, much, much lighter pics. Use a link out to a photohost with thumbnail for 75% of what you appear to have posted above. Those with the inclination and band-width will go there. Those without will be able to at least get a taste. Use a conventional photohost. Livefilestore is a problem because it appears to require d/l every time. Don't use hotlinks that don't work; many people won't click on them anyway, for security reasons. I'm sure many more people would appreciate, and comment, on your project if they could actually see it. The question is whether you want to interact with us, or just use the site as platform to way to broadcast about your life. That's what Facebook and other social media sites of its ilk are for. I don't know if this will work for you, I read in one of the forums that coffee and coffee grounds would keep the slugs at bay. Well I tried it and it works great for me.
We have been having a lot of rain too here in central FL.

Dan the mailman, I love that song, do you have a song for bugs? mabe put a tune to........ I hate bugs, I hate bugs

Oh dear I think I'm waaayyy too tired.

Diene, that's terrible. We've been sunless for days again too. I haven't been outside since I've been running around with errands so much. I hope, hope, hope, those fat buggers aren't in my gardens too. I haven't seen too many this year yet but maybe that is because I have so many toads gobbling them up. God Bless the toad.

Hey Tracy, can you send me some toads? I did see one today when I was mowing the lawn and I let him live. We did have sun this afternoon, it was wonderful but it is raining again. Boy am I tired of this.

You know, I did wonder if it was possible to pack them into a Priority box. I know the kids would have a blast hunting the little toadies to send. We have them in the thousands. Some are pretty big too. The tiny ones are adorable. No bigger than your pinky nail.

Set out some clay pots on their sides in all your flower beds, the toads will congregate in them when it's hot and sunny out.

I am all over that, I will put the pots out tomorrow. I am hoping the cat does not think this is for her enjoyment. We had some sun today but only for about five hours then the skies opened up.

I hope it helps! You have a serious talk with Mr. Kitty and let him know the toads are not prey, they have their job to do! LOL!

It was finally dry here yesterday for the entire day. Overcast but comfortable enough. We had friends over for grilled ribs and some fireworks. The kids all had a great time playing together.

Did you do anything fun?

I've got Japanese beetles too for the 2nd year. They are eating my crepe myrtles, cannas and rose of sharon up. I tried knocking them into soapy water but they are too fast for me. There are 3 and 4 on the same leaves.
Diene put crushed egg shells on the ground around plants to keep out the slugs or cornmeal. Anything gritty will keep them away they say. You can send me the rain. I never thought during the winter and spring I'd be begging for it but we've been watering for 3 weeks.

I have almost overcome the Japanese beetles using Milky Spores even though every person in the gardening industry in this part of the world tells me they do not work. This is the third yard I have successfully used them in. I will get a few beetles on my Clematis from neighbors yards but there is nothing I can do about that. Does NEEM work on them? I am thinking not but do not remember and it is worth investigating. Actually I just saw a tip about what to spray on the leaves, oh never mind, it was something really toxic.
The sun in shining today as it did yesterday and even Friday. We have had rain every day but Friday but at least it is happening in the morning and evening and not constant. I need to get out in the sun to cure my Vitamin D deficiency.
