First Carrie mango of the season.
Comments (3)Myamberpup, I'll take that pat on the back because I'm feeling very proud of the results. I had great weather, great advice and Mother Nature did a big part. Puglvr1, my small crop last year had those taste notes or qualities that you described and it left me a little dismayed because I was expecting a little more. Puglvr1 your description of a carrie mango as being piney, herb strong flavor was somewhat accurate of my last years small crop. Last year I described it as spicy and sweet. I'm not the best at trying to describe a mango flavor because often there is so much going on. Why they are amazing this year, can't really say but I did follow your advice puglvr1 on many occasions and today's sampling was everything I expected and more....See Morecarrie mango tips?
Comments (5)Thanks, indeed I have seen lots of photos of low and bush Carries. I have also seen a couple pics that give me some hope, however. Below is a pic of the tree I purchased. I hope with some pruning as it grows, I can give it a decent shape. I have limited space since I live in town, so my general gardening philosophy is to not grow more than one of the same thing, and very carefully pick the things I grow. I have cheated somewhat with Plumeria by saying that Pudica, Rubra, and Obtusa are not the same, but I shall not show this weakness again :) BTW great point on ripening green. I bought a couple this weekend that were grown down in PI, they were pretty ugly and one was completely green w/no color break whatsoever. However, it began to yellow a couple days later and tasted great. This is perfect, few thieves will realize this. Over the last couple of years I have developed an allergy to mangos but I still eat them anyway. I stay away from handling them now, but I still get a little itchy around the eyes from eating them. A minor inconvenience for getting to enjoy one of nature's best fruits :)...See MoreCarrie Mango....I really get it now !!!
Comments (31)I have seen mango trees in pots with fruit all over them!! Many of them were trees that were for sale in 15 gallon pots waiting for a home.... trees that are not of the dwarf size varieties.... I can't wait until the next mango season to see what happens with mine in the pots. BTW--- I took a seed from a ripe valencia pride mango germinated it over 4 days then stuck it in soil. I left for vacation the next day and came back 1 week later to an 8inch seedling. I could not believe how fast this seedling grew. I am leaving in the full sun with afternoon mixed sun/shade since it obviously likes it so far. Anyone have any thoughts on keeping shaded all day until it gets bigger or should I leave it like it is??...See MoreMy Glenn and Carrie mango new buds are drying. Help?
Comments (2)Looks like a common case of transplant "shock". Many plants will shed flowers, fruits, new growth when taken from a pot and put in ground. Its natural and temporary. The spider threads are no big deal either. It changed its mind and moved on. Or,it got eaten by a bird!...See Moresquam256
