Rambutan Gender Question

OK, now that I have succeeded in sprouting some Rambutans, I'd like to know if they will turn out to be female. I heard that only female plants produce fruit. For those of you who grow Rambutans, how do you tell the gender of the plant? Do you wait until they flower, or not flower? That must be quite a long wait because I've read somewhere that they fruit in 5-7 years from seedlings. I wish there was a way to tell apart earlier on. Also if I happen to grow some male plants, what role do they play as far as pollination goes? Would appreciate any kind of info you could provide.
