i have my toms out day and night now in surprise az same climate as u. get them use to sun slowly first early morning only tillabout830am then in shade rest of day. do this about 3 days then let them have sun under a house screen or comercial sun screen till about 1 or 2 pm for 3 days then all day under screen 2 days . full sun till 2 pm then shade. 2 days .then full sun. take in if temp goes below 45 they could use full stength plant food at 6wks old.ihope i did cofuse u like i did myself ha. it works to slowly acimate then. use your instinct. our sun here is wonderflly strong u will need a comercial sun screen over head and on late afternoon side of plants when it really gets hot. lowes sells sun screen for one. good luck. ernie in surprise

I live in the Texas Panhandle, and we've just now begun to get some "cool" weather. I've had a bumper crop of tomatoes, and a few "volunteers" that I've thrown into the compost heap. Some of the tomatoes have sprung some seedlings and they are in their two week stage with about 2 or 3 pairs of leaves. I could transfer them into some transplant cells and ship them to you, if you wish. I have some Beef Masters, Beef Steaks, Better Boys, and Big Boys. I don't know if any of them are hybrids, and I don't know what kind of results they will provide once they start bearing; but you're welcome to them... I have a couple hundred of them growing in my patch. When I first saw them last week, I thought they were just weeds coming back after I had tilled the ground. But upon closer examination, I noticed the leaves of tomato seedlings, so I let them grow. I've also some heirloom seeds for a cross that I developed between the Lemon Boy and Beef Master. It's a yellow Beef Master with the heft and size of the bigger tomatoe, but the yellow flesh of the Lemon Boy. It also has a lower acidity than the red tomato, with a delicious flavor. It was quite by accident that they cross pollinated. I set some Beef Masters next to my Lemon Boys and voila! Next year I will manually cross pollinate some Beef Masters and Beefsteaks with the Lemon Boys and see what I get. If you are buying transplants rather than growing your own from seed then your choices will be severely limited anyway. Do you have a list of what is available? If so then you can look each up by name to see what its DTM is and look for one around 60-70 days, no longer. Otherwise we could list all sorts of varieties of the thousands that fall into that maturity range but the odds are very slim you could find them as a nursery transplant. Nurseries and the big box stores tend to limit themselves to 20-30 varieties only. Dave

At 4 inches I would leave the plant alone. It's trying to grow. I guess if you want to grow a multi-stem plant which takes up more space and may require bigger trellis to support you can snip the main stem. I don't think it's necessary for Celebrity which is going to become a big plant anyway. I don't prune anything until my plant gets to about 2ft aside from removing bad looking leaves in the bottom. After that if the leaves gets to crowded or too much suckers growing then I might prune some to improve airflow.
