Comments (5)khourshed, the more usual symptom is a pale leaf blade with green leaf veins. With a bit of imagination you can discern a green 'triangle' (outlined by the yellowing edge) on the older leaves. You have probably seen the same symptom on older palm fronds - especially Phoenix canariensis, the Canary Island date palm. The symptom is related to magnesium deficiency, I think that you have over applied iron and this may have depressed magnesium uptake (if I remember correctly). Hence the browning along the edge (iron toxicity) and the green triangle (magnesium deficiency). The brown sections should be crisp to the touch. If not, you might have something else. Another pleasant fruit is the soursop, Annona muricata. It flavors ice cream exquisitely....See Moreannona sp - golden Sugar apple
Comments (1)I have many Sugar Apple trees. They are small and neat and are tucked in all over the property in various beds. They survived our freeze with no problems, even my potted Golden Sugar Apple. There are several along US1 in Stuart, zone 9, that are not cared for, that are thriving, in the 6 years I have watched them. If they are affected at all, it is only dieback of some branch tips. The majority of the tree is unscathed. I love this family of fruit trees! They are pretty, small and easy to get fruit from. My green SA has so many fruits on it now that I cannot count them all. You can keep your tree potted for years, or protect it during hard freezes if in the ground. They are tough. Lisa...See MoreSpores Mushroom? Growing in my sugar apple seedlings...
Comments (4)when i did seeds.. i learned to sterilize all media... to avoid issues like this ... and frankly.. it really didnt matter what the bag claimed: http://www.coopext.colostate.edu/4DMG/Soil/sterile.htm trees are very different than say.. veg OR HOUSEPLANTS ..... especially in regard to media .... have you researched this ... or did you just buy what was available ... it might not be imperative at the seed sprouting stage ... but it can become very important in the long run .... most trees like a sip a water.. and then near total drainage ... and near drying in between those sips ... a media that retain too much water can be A DETRIMENT .. and a lot of MG stuff stays to wet for such [mostly because its sold for veg and houseplant uses] there is a tree forum.. and we have a few peeps who do this particular type of thing ... and i dont mean grow mushrooms.. lol ... you might also try the fruit forum .... Comments (7)Don't "pluck" cut them off with a scissor if the tree is small. If you pluck them you may tear the stem. Larger trees respond well late in season by running your closed hand backward on the stem. Loose leaves will come right off. There's two schools, leave them alone, and defoliate. I defoliate what I can (they're too big to completely defoliate) right about now, and tip prune, as well as cut off little branches in the canopy that will inhibit airflow, sunlight and are not going to be big enough to hold fruit anyway.Just FYI, the limbs I defoliate don't seem to do any better flushing new growth than older taller branches higher up that I do not defoliate....See Moreyellowthumb
