The leaf roll is a physiological response of the plant to stress of some kind. Causes included excessive water/rain, temp extremes, being root bound, and excess fertilization (esp. N).

The leaf tip and edge burn is common to excess N fertilizer. Never heard of this 511 mix so can't say whether it is the source of the problem or not - what's in it? Or if it's because you have been feeding too much N. Usually fish emulsion isn't that high in N so how much and how often have you used it.

And, without knowing what is in this 511 mix, it is very possible that you need a much more balanced fertilizer that also includes micro-nutrients.

Just some points to consider.

511 is a mix from Al Tapla on this board. Basically it is pine fines, dolimitc lime, spag peat moss and perlite.

I used espoma tomato tone on these plants. I came back and gave them some miracle grow yesterday. If your thinking it is N problem, well, I probably finished off the plants.

Wandering if 2 days a week watering not enough. Plant is in 15 gallon container that gets saturated Sat and Wens. The plant has never been droopy or appeared in need of water.

I have two tomato plants in the same mix except I used a 9 month fertilizer on those. Maybe have some better luck.

Ahhh, I see. Al posts over on the Container Gardening forum and I did find several previous discussions there on his mixes. Plus 1 I linked below is on problems with the mixes with tomatoes. You might want to check it out. You can also contact him directly if you wish.

But if you are just watering on some set schedule whether the plant needs it or not - gets saturated Sat and Wens. The plant has never been droopy or appeared in need of water. then you could easily be over-watering and that causes the leaf roll.

As to the excess fertilization - if you lay off the fertilizers for a bit the plant will usually recover. You will loose the affected leaves but the plant itself will usually survive.

Hi. I not an expert on gardening. But It sounds to me like your
using too much fertilizer. If your using Tomato-Tone, I don't
think you need to fertilize them for quite a while. I use Garden
Tone on my eggplants,peppers and cucumbers. I never fertilize
them again. They do great. Of course I also grow them in good
soil with compost.

Too much fertilizer, I only fertilize once; 10-10-10 around the base of the newly planted tomato 24" out and that is it for the rest of the year. not sure what the container equivalent would be.

Yeah, I am over fertilizing based on responses here. I thought tomato tone said you should re-aplly after 1 month, I will need to go back and check the packaging. Either way, I am sure I am over doing it.

If a tomato plant loses its flowers from stress like over fertilizing and the plant recovers, will it flower again?

Yes, if it recovers, and it usually will, it will flower on new growth. What variety is that?

"Better Bush" variety. Is there anything to do to speed up recovery, flush the pot?

Re an earlier comment: a Better Bush is a determinate variety, and generally they don't grow except to a gentically determined height, setting most of their fruit very close together in time. To what extent it continues to blossom after being stressed and losing blossoms due to stress probably remains to be seen! Just watch for new growth and new blossoms to know you're out of the woods.

Yes, flushing the plant soil will get rid of any over-fertilization residue since it's in a container. What size container? -- I don't think you said. That would have an effect on the amount of fertilizer added, too. See if the plant recovers and begins new growth after drying out and don't water unless the soil is dry one knuckle down!
