making mini greenhouses from soda bottles

I am in PA.Our soil is about 50 degrees and we are getting a couple cold nights in the low 30's. I have tomato seedlings in a window sill and wish to plant them out. I have 2 litre plastic soda bottles with the bottoms cut off and 2 inches into the ground and the cap off. The condensation is inside the bottles. I feel it would be safe to get the tomatoes planted inside the protection of the bottles. Any thoughts?
