Just in case you haven't seen this from lycheesonline, the link is below. I did this last year, I pruned my two lychee trees (that have never fruited before). They were just a little over a year old at the time. I pruned all the tips of each branch, I did every one I could get to(except a few inside the canopy) that I couldn't reach). The following year they both produced blooms, like yours almost all of it "froze". A couple of blooms survived on one of the trees and I got some fruits out of it this year. My guess is it must have worked at least in my case, Not 100% sure this was the reason, but I am planning on doing the same thing again this July 15, as per their recommendation.

Thanks puglvr1 for sharing your experience and the link. It's kind of hard for me to think about clipping off the new growth though. Especially for my Brewster, it really hasn't grown much since I got it a few years ago. On the other hand, my Mauritius has grown quite a lot. Nonetheless, I'll still go ahead to trim them down anyway since it's been recommended. I'm glad you were able to get some fruit from yours this year. You must have been doing the right thing. I hope you enjoy whatever fruit you've left. My Sweetheart which is in the pot and protected from the cold is giving off two fruit after having dropped off lots of its blooms, but I'm planning to put it into the ground soon as it's growing tall and fast.

Banana, I know what you mean about not wanting to prune off new growths. I was fortunate that when July 15 of last year came, most of the new growth had hardened off. BTW, I only nipped about a couple of inches off each branch and some I only took an inch. You don't have to take much off. And really, if you don't take any off the new growth, who's to say that wouldn't produce blooms also? It's certainly a possibility, so I woudn't trim those if you don't feel comfortable doing so.

Wow, this is a comforting news indeed, Puglvr. Last year, I took off 6" or more from most of the branches. Now I'll know better. Taking 1-2" certainly is a lot easier to stomach. Thanks so much for the tips again.

Puglvr, I have a question for you. Today, I was out checking out my Lychee Mauritius and I saw new growth emerging on the tip of many branches. I had wanted to trim them back, but with the new growth emerging, I just don't know what to do. Should I just trim off those branches without the new growth first and then wait for those with new growth to mature before trimming them at a later date? Thanks again for your help.

I noticed mine was doing the same thing! I emailed lycheesonline and asked what I should do? He told me, that the tree is doing okay, and the timing of the flushing is just right, and I don't need to do anything. I will not be trimming the new growths. I might trim the branches that aren't flushing (take an inch or so...off of those). I will take his expert advise and NOT prune the "new growths". HTH
