Wow! So beautifull!! I wish I could move in to your yard. Too bad about the lychee. Can you save any of it? Well it looks like most of your t rees made it thru the winter. Sorry for the casulties! That must be frustrating and heartbreaking. Especially the cacoa! Well I guess i got the answer to my question. Looks like you will have some mangoes here soon.

That cogshall is huge. I was under the impression it was a dwarf variety suitable for container growing.

Do you think a giant airlayer on the split branch would work to possibly make another tree instead of cutting off the branch, or has it completely separated already?

Is the taste of the Christmas loquat as you remembered now? They look a lot riper than the one we tasted.

That pineapple should be a variegated A. comosus var. bracteatus.

i visited Harrys property Easter Sunday. the Bradenton loquat was delicious, the Christmas not so much

that variety is ornamental and also called "ivory coast" because it is from Africa.

Andrew.....thanks for the kind words. Re: the cacao...you can't see it in the picture, but the large potted tree is sprouting new growth all over the place. I have smaller trees planted out around the same large tree and only one of those is re-sprouting from its base. The others a green and yellow variety look like they may have had it. Re: the split lychee...see discussion below.

Kubi411: Thanks for the kind words. Cogshall is a smaller growing mango. But as far as dwarf, there is Julie and Ice Cream....and maybe Pickering, the jury is still out on it. You could say that my fruit growing hobby has taken some considerable time to get to this point. But the good news is, once the trees get established, barring a hurricane or other disaster, all you have to do is sit back and wait for the fruit.

Bryan and Sheehan: The Christmas Loquat has gotten somewhat sweeter than it was when you each were over. It still isn't tasting as good as what I remembered. That better memory caused me to buy it. If it had tasted like this has so far this year, I wouldn't have planted it out. But as Bryan pointed out, the Bradenton right next to this tree has been really excellent. The thing about Christmas is that it is very large with great flesh to seed ratio. My friend who got me these trees says that I should try two things. One, wait until it fruits again next year before doing anything rash. Two, wait until this years fruits become more ripe. Even partially tree dried. I will be dehydrating some in the next few days to see how they are.

Re: the lychee and doing a large airlayer....interesting idea. Not sure if that would be logistically possible, but I would be willing to try. I know large layers can be made. Sheehan, if you have time and feel like stopping by and giving me some ideas about the logistics of your suggestion or a hand in actually doing it,I would be most aprreciative. BTW, the airlayer that you put on this tree is on an intact branch towards the back of the tree.

Awesome pictures. To think that this was a record cold winter in South Florida! Imagine when we get a warm winter again next year :) I love all the mangoes. I'd be in heaven.

NTM: Thanks. My neigbors and I have an agreement that anything they plant that grow over my fence becomes mine as far as fruit harvest and my overhanging fruit becomes theirs. So it works out pretty well. They get mango, lychee and sapodilla and I get atemoya, sugar cane, dragonfruit and giant granadilla.

Sheehan and Bryan: Thanks for the ID on the pineapple. Googling the names you each provided reveals images that seem to be right on. However, one site I looked at says that it originates in Brazil. I wonder if there is also an Ivory Coast in Brazil. I didn't find any on Google.

LOL...that's Going Bananas...not Big Bananas. The lychee is Garnet and both it and Kaimana are doing fine. I'll take a couple of shots of them today once I get my chores done. Re: ripe jaboticabas in two month time....uncertain....possible but unlikely.

Harry, i think then they are distinct cultivars, as the Ivory Coast and South Africa are both major exporters of pineapple as well, unless for some reason a Brazillian cultivar is named Ivory Coast, but again i think the prior is more likely.

No, every variety did not bloom. Close to all bloomed, but not all. In the non-blooming category this year was Seymour, Red Ohia,and Bosworth. Certain varieties that I have planted out several trees had some non-blooming individuals, so at least one of each of these bloomed: Bosworth 3 (Kwai Mai Pink), Ohia, and Kaimana (smaller trees/later plantings did not bloom, main larger tree did). Oh, and my Emperor seedling did not bloom.

Harry, you make me so envious every time you post your yard updates. I can't believe all the varieties and how beautiful and well taken care of all your trees are. I really love the structure of your Hak Ip Lychee and once again, your Edward Mango seems to be fruiting well.

Please let me know if your neighbor ever moves away. I'd move in ASAP! Harry, can you try to take some pictures of your Garnet Lychee fruit when they are ripened? I've never even heard of this variety untill you brought it up and I remember you saying it was one of your favorites.

Garnet Lychee was purchased at Going Bananas in Miami. It was about 15 years ago.

Do you have fruit trees flowering all spring/summer? Is spring the heaviest flowering period? I know some things bloom in winter, how about autumn?

My yard is full of blooms, but the apple, peach, cherry, pear, apricot type :) Do you grow any stonefruit? I would think this last winter you would have had a decent amount of cold for them. I know there are some peaches that will handle Florida.

There is always something in bloom at my house. The spring and summer seasons find the most blooming/fruiting plants/trees. I have tried stone fruits (peaches, plums and nectarines) and gave up on them because of insufficient chill hours in the past. This year we had plenty of hours of chill, but the only thing I have left are two somewhat stunted Hood Pear trees. They bloom sporadically but have never set any fruit.

WOW your pics are amazing! I wish I had as much space to something similar, I cram as much as I can into my little quater acre. How large is your alano and how long did it take to get that big? I have one in a pot I am thinking of putting in the ground. I have the same pineapple as you as well as others, dont you just love home grown pineapples?

keiki with good positioning and trees that like pruning like mango and lychee you would be surprised what you can fit on a 1/4 acre
